Moving from NY to FL. Cheapest method.
Ship your stuff and drive. I think I paid something similar to U-Haul years ago moving from CA to NY, a bit further than you and with their largest truck (my Jeep Wrangler on the trailer). That lame truck was just nasty to drive!

Tried Pods.com. That is a complete rip off unless I did something wrong. For 1 7' container it was $2300!!! Insanely high and thats not even big enough at all!!
16' one for $2600. Wow don't know why they are soo much money.

When I moved cross-country I rented space on a large truck through a moving company and drove out. I believe the truck space was around $700 or so and then factor in 3K miles worth of gas, etc. and I estimate the total move still came out to less than the U-Haul price you were given. You have significantly less stuff to move though.
Hmm I'll have to look into it. Looks like so far the best economical way would be to sell the few things I would be bringing with me and then hit up craigslist once I get down there.
rent a small truck from budget that can tow. some places offer pickup trucks (not sure if can be done one way thou) like others have said, there are coupons in the moving packet the post office gives you and you can probably find coupons online. good luck.
or....... you can rent a truck with unlimited mileage from a rent-a-car place (you can also rent hitches and trailers from other places). drive down with your stuff, drive back, return truck, and then drive back to FL in the s2000.
