My baby goes under the knife!
Well, I'd been delaying on bringing in my s2k since about November or so. I reported the 1-2 gear grind to my original dealer just about the time the bulletin was released. Their decision: we gotta replicate it <mutter>. "But in the bulletin it SAYS intermittent!" "We gotta replicate it."
Sooo, I tried a new dealer for service - Motor Werks of Barrington, IL. They deal in (get this) Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, <something else>, and Honda. I figured their techs must be used to A) treating the customer right and B) treating high-performance cars well.
My laundry list of issues:
1. Driver's side window doesn't go down when top does. (common problem here, I know)
2. "I hear a buzzing noise when decelerating at about 4200 rpm. It goes away when I put the clutch in or accelerate." (clutch disk TSB)
3. "The wierdest thing happened to me yesterday, I had the clutch all the way in, but when I shifted from first to second, it ground" (1-2 grind)
4. "Are there any other recalls out there I don't know about?"
Their response:
"After looking into it, we found a service bulletin on 2 and 3, so we'll order those parts for you and fix it. We will have to take the tranny apart, however, so that'll put us into next week at least. We're still trying to isolate the driver's side window problem, we may have to replace the motor and the relay. Oh, and there's a seat belt recall out there, but it's already been done on your car by the original dealer, it looks like."
The latter is kind of odd, as I got the recall notice many months after I had the car, and I've only brought it in once. However, I have to say I'm very happy with the service and attitude of those folks over there, so I encourage every one in the neighboorhood who isn't happy with their dealer to give these folks a try.
On a humorous note, I kinda forgot to clean the car after the last autocross (in, um, October), so the guy asks me if I want an estimate on the front end. "Why?" "Someone hit it." I FLEW out of his office and checked out the front of the car. "Nope, no problem. That's just cone blood." (I wiped most of it off). I explained to him how I took a driver's school in the car, and I hit a few cones at the end.
So, I get the car back the week of the 19th, get the bigger swaybar on it, get it aligned for racing, drop it off at the detailing shop and I should be ready for our first event on the 25th!
