My first convertible. Questions
Hi All,
Iamb planning on getting a S2000 this weekend (if everything goes well). I have a few questions.
These questions might seem a bit silly but I never owned a convertible before.
This will be my only car, it will be a daily driver. I have a garage to park it in at night. I will be driving this car about 9 months of the year, I plan on parking if for the extreme winter months (mid Dec - mid Mar) So it will see some snow.
- Are the tops 100% waterproof?
- How do the the top hold up with snow & ice?
- How do you wash the top? Do you wash it with a mitt like you would the body? Can you rinse it off with a hose nozzle?
- How about rinsing off near the seals? Will water leak in?
- Is there a product to use on the top to make it last longer?
- Do you condition the seals to prevent decay or wind leaks?
- I might be forced to drive this car in some winter conditions. Do they make steel rims for this car (2004) for snow tires.
- What about rust proofing? I know it's not recommended but in my area they use a lot of salt on the roads & it sticks around even in the spring.
Thanks,
Mark

This was also my first convert. Tops are pretty much water proof and hold up to snow and ice very well, mine has been thru 3 winters no prob. U can wash the top the same as the car but every once in a while use some sort of convertible cleaner like raggtopp or 303 protectant which u may have to order online. Only time i've seen water leak in was from some sort of high pressure source like at a do it yourself car wash etc. I think tire rack does sell some sort of winter package for the car also see the wheel and tire section of the forums. Wouldn't recommend and type of snow driving on the oem tires if so be extra careful. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
