My Honda Dealer Visit
Just a little quickie on my dealer visit last week.
I took my car in to have the A/C checked. I've got 40k miles on it right now with the Honda Care 7/100k $0 deductable warranty.
The dealer calls me 3 hours later and says that the A/C didn't have a leak so I'll have to pay the $95.00 diagnostic fee. He also said my car's in need of a lot of work. He broke it down like this.
The differential needs a "tune-up" cause it's making noise (I'm guessing he means a fluid change)
The trans fluid needs changed
Oil drain plug needs a new washer (dripping)
Oil filter is "completely wrong" (it's not an OEM honda filter)
Oil Change (goes w/ the new drain plug + washer)
A/C Cabin Filter
Brake fluid needs flushed (claiming there's water and acidic residue in it)
Valves need adjusted (they claim to hear some knocking)
Coolant needs flushed
Tires need aligned and balanced (new tires put on less than 2000 miles ago)
The wonderful grand total $790.00
Of course I payed the $95.00 and just took my car back after they added the freon. So the big question is, what here should be covered under warranty (if any) and how much of it is BS (if any). Oh and remember I had my 30k tune-up done 10k miles ago.

at 40K i would drain the diff & tranny
cost to do it yourself - $23.50 - X-viper's guides priceless
A/C Cabin filter $17.25 from Hardtopguy - Airgate's guide priceless
Oil change $25.00 oem honda s2000 filter and washers from hardtop guy
I would change the brake fluid & coolant because i think it's only good for three years - PM Pinky as he did his during one of our last tech days - as for the brake fluid, Once again X-Viper's guide
as for a valve job - I guess we're lucky enough to have G-s2k local - he can do a valve job in less than an hour and half - Does you car tick?? if so i'd say yes if not it proabbly fine
Chris - my advice is to see if your local club id soing a tech day and start on the stuff that you can do

Little to none of it is covered under warranty, it's all maintence.
What was done at the 30k mi checkup?
I won't hurt the diff to do the fluid every 10k mi (or even less for that matter) the tranny fluid should be good for more than 10k though. If the brakes have never been bled, then new fluid is a good idea. (bleed the clutch fluid at the same time.)
Oil changes should be done every 3700mi or so, I like the OEM honda filter (The PCX filter, make SURE it's the right one) If the drain plug is leaking, then yeah replace the crush washer (at my dealer it was less than $1 for two.)
Coolant wouldn't hurt to change out.
And the air filters get NASTY disgusting so changing that out is a really good idea.
The valve adjustment is a good idea if there really is a problem and would be the only thing I would reccomend you NOT tackle yourself. Either get a very knowdledgeable owner in your area to help you, or take it to a dealership.
If any of the above was done at the 30k checkup, then call the dealership out on it, and if any of them weren't done at 30k, then call out whoever failed to do a good job on the 30k checkup.

Ok thanks for the responses. I can do most of the work myself (with the exception of the valve job). I'll have to grab the receipt from my 30k check up and see what was done.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
