hey, only 15 and don't have any REAL experience with cars but im really into cars especially the s2000 for the past years. i was just wondering, why not get some high compression piston for the f20 since your s2k isn't FI. won't that increase your horsepower or would that just blow up ur engine.
sorry im a noob
sorry im a noobWell first of all the compression on the S2 is already on the high side. Higher compression could lead to the need for higher octane fuel, which is expensive for every fill up and not availible everywhere.
Then you will most likely need stand alone engine management, which isn't uncommon, but again, hundreds more dollars and after tunning, over $1000 more. Some guys will get a thinner head gasket to raise the compression, much much less work than swaping slugs.
And then I think the pay off won't be that great, for the money and work involved. You might as well just order a J's race motor and be done with it.
Anyone, correct me if I'm off at all.
haha thx for answering my question. iam alwayz learning something new everyday about cars =) one more question what is a stand alone engine management isn't it like a ecu. if it is then is the j's n1 ecu a stand alone engine management?

Stand alone is something like, AEM, Hondata, MoTec, and so on. These systems modify the ECU maps directly, unlike piggyback systems like VAFC's. Those systems just splice into your existing wire harness and just interupt the ECU's conversation with the Engine. Not good for a lot of reasons but for most, but gets the job done.
Most S2000 owners who choose to modify the ECU go with AEM, it seems, to me anyway, that its the most friendly, theres a good bit of support for it too. You sit down on a Dyno, and run after run, change your fuel and ignition timing values until you've optimized horsepower and torque curves, along with Air/Fuel ratio, to keep the engine running in a safe and reliable state. And I think the AEM has to remain attached to the ECU and it kind of, Runs the car from then on.
The J's ecu is stand alone, in theory, but is really just "another" ecu. They used they're computers and tunning to make the maps and values that the ECU holds and created a replacement ECU for the S2000. so you just swap it and go.

Time to update this thread a bit.
This topic is making a temporary deviation to this link...
Engine Fatality! Yep... Thats mine...!
If you read it you will see that the time has come for the J's Racing engine upgrade!
