My new headrests.
I contacted Rick's and was told his was not available till later after he had completed all the recalls. I checked back on some older threads to see what the price was and decided I didn't want to spend that kind of money. I pretty much nixed that idea (if I can't justify the price, I'll do without or I'll make my own) & then I came upon the Davie's product and the price quoted to me changed my mind about not getting these. So it was a combination of the later availability ('cause it was NOW or never) AND a price I couldn't refuse that compelled me to buy when and from where I did. I have nothing against Rick's. In fact, I'm currently waiting for my windscreen from him as I write this. Besides, I like to "spread the wealth".
My past record has shown that I support our sponsors but I consider myself an informed shopper and this seemed to me to be a better deal.

Just curious. How come you didn't buy these off Rick's Signature Accessories? They make the same product(s) and also sponsor this board.

I would like to take this opportunity to clarify some unique difference between Davies Accessories and other manufactures of modification accessories. Naturally, by the nature of the business all of the sponsors and myself "make the same product(S)" We are all involved in the business of producing S2000 mods for our friends and forum members. Our diligence only benefits a select group of savvy individuals, they are the people who scour this forum for knowledge and high quality mods. Since, many of our clients are routinely searching for the best products at a fair cost, it would only behoove all of us to produce similar items better and effectively priced. Take for example a simple product such as the "Ergonomic Footrest". To my knowledge there are over four different sponsors including yourself, who produce this item at various costs from $23-$43. I take this selection with great inspiration, since it shows me free market at it's best!!! Do you consider your products unique or simply the same as others? Why would clients choose one product from another? Very simple, as retailers we offer the power of choice and SERVICE.
Since, I am in the leather industry who mainly manufactures handbags and shoes. I thought it would be a natural fit as a part-time business/hobby to market my designs. Like many Headrest fans, I had no alternative at the time, but to consult Rick's Signature Accessories for a headrest, that would offer comfort on long drives (405 fwy
). In fact, on May 15th of this year I had made an online purchase of Rick's Headrest. With Rick's incredible service, he personally called to explain the production challenges they were facing. Without hesitation, Rick's exchanged it for an Aero Screen and I was given my payment back in full. (I love the Aero Screen and the Premier Service by Rick's
). Left with one choice, I consulted my designers and are now producing Davies Headrest and Leather Console. These items are not the same as Rick's like you mentioned earlier. I commend Rick and James for their invaluable support and wealth of knowledge to this forum, but I like them would rather be viewed as two individual companies with different products and ideals. However, the comparison of us being the same company is quite flattering for me since I love the ideas and products that Rick's offer.
My current mission is to produce modification products that either yield performance gains or safety devices that allow enthusiast to enjoy their cars on speed events. Since, my focus lies with WWW.Speedtrialusa.com, I am not working further with aesthetics for our cars, since Rick's and our other sponsors including Muz have done a superb job. My main focus is to have a roll bar/cage and Brake package that we can all benefit from. I would love to see a Speedtrial event with over 20 safety legal S2000 on the track.

As for being a sponsor of this forum. I would love to become an integral part of this community and sponsor this site. At the current moment it is not feasible with only two products. I plan with the support of this board and fellow forum members, to launch my sponsorship with the completion of my latest rollbar and Brake project. I am sure when you first started you had the same challenges before becoming a prominent sponsor of this board.
I hope this post clarifies any questions regarding my company and it's individuality. We are a small community and I hope to raise to the level of a board sponsor soon!! Muz, I thank you for this opportunity and plan to make this forum better as a team rather than an opponent. Rick's I thank you in advance for allowing me to use your company as a Premier example to my discussion. Keep up the Awesome work Sponsors, I am learning every moment on this forum and hope to contribute my wealth of knowledge gleaned from everyone here.
Krazik~ Thank you for allowing this thread on this forum!!!

It's good to have Companies making and selling similar products. It'll help to improve the product overall. I like the fact that, here in the West Coast, I can cruise up the 405 and visit David and get answers to my questions.
I just wish King Motorsports opened up shop here in California

Amen! I think this is healthy. But it''s only real value is to increase the range of products offered. It really doesn't make a lot of sense, for example, to spread the tiny market for foot rests among four manufacturers. Eventually, all of them may get out of the business, because it may prove unprofitable for all. The market for S2000 accessories just isn't big enough to sustain many people. That probably explains why most of us doing have other businesses through which we make our real living, since no one could live off accessories for S2000s
For this reason, James and I have deliberately chosen not to make or sell any product that will compete directly with another owner. Mark Digrappa's x-brace came close, but since it was differently made and a much higher end product, and the other braces being sold were, in fact, just pass-through products (or knock-offs of those products) sold by a wide variety of distributors, we decided it was ok. But our policy is not to compete with other owner-makers. It just doesn't feel right to us, since this is largely a labor of love.
As an example, Mingster and I communicated and cooperated when we were developing the windscreen, because he already had designed one for MY2000 cars, which did not come with the screen stock. His design did not require the stock mechanism. We developed a screen for cars with the stock mechanism, and we shared our design templates with Richard as they were being developed. Each windscreen serves a different market and a different need. Without this kind of consideration and cooperation, this tiny market will be cannabalized, and owners will be the lesser for it.
I think some people on this board, especially newer members who were not around in the beginning, are under the impression that we, Mingster, and others are big companies that live off the car business. We are not.
