I'm from VA. Its horrible. I'm affraid to clear my turn signals because I still go to VA quite often. Also they will pull you over and ticket you for your windows being to dark and anything else they think they can bend you over for. Not to mention a required front tag. I like being in VA but I don't think I'll ever move back and the reasons above is a large factor in that.

I got a $90 "improper muffler" ticket a couple years ago, spent 80 on a resonator and they got rid of it. Not a driving infraction anyway, more along the same lines as not having a front plate where required, etc.

Another time I had a very slight leak by the cat and got pulled over in Toronto in the middle of the club/bar district with evvverybody watching. Cop kept trying to tell me it wasn't a leak, etc. and I convinced him to lie down next to the car and listen. Best nite ever lying a cop down in the road in front of everyone, but he agreed it was a leak and just let me go and told me to fix it. Good cop.

Be nice and have a valid excuse ready right away.

Yeah, I live right outside of Richmond. It is pretty rough around Va. Although out of all the cars that I have owned with exhausts I have never gotten pulled for a loud exhaust and my Evo with the 3" no cat was pretty loud.
I have gotten hassled for no front tags several times and I got pulled for tint when I had my 350Z and it wasn't even tinted.

This thread is over 2 years old. Virginia isn't bad......but I'm an older white male - I can do anything in Virginia

Seriously guys - you are blowing a lot of things out of proportion. I've had just as many incidents in North Carolina and Tennessee as I've had in Virginia. When I look at how much more time I spend in VA than NC or TN it makes me believe those two states are way more strict than VA.

you could just get a really loud horn instead of a loud exhaust

it all depends on the cop. some cops dont give a rats ass about exhaust and others ticket people religiously.
i used to have the invidia + tp combo and only one cop would give me a ticket, the same cop twice. he was cop on the GMU campus and he always gave me shit. but when i drove around fairfax next to cops, infront of cops, and driving by them they dont care. it all depends on the police officer. my best friend is a cop and he would never ticket anyone for their aftermarket exhaust.
i now have an even louder exhaust and not a single cop has given me a problem. i have been pulled over for speeding and the cop didnt say a thing about my exhaust.
