It's like an officer telling you were doing 83 in a 65 just based on his opionion without a radar or anything.

actually cops can do this, they're trained for several days/weeks to estimate speed without radar, they learn how to use markers to determine speed of cars, and actually are tested on this skill, they must be within a few MPH to pass the test

at that point, its their word against yours

In NY I know it is illegal to do ANY modifications to the exhaust.

It used to be 95 decibels and higher.. Now it is anything that is different then stock..

Why do I know? I was pulled over constantly over it with my 240sx..

Fuggin sucks..

Virginia is one of the worst states when it comes to aftermarket exhaust. It doesnt matter if you low rev it, if your exhaust is silent, in Va, if you have an kind of performance exhaust you are subject to get hassled. Around biggers cities it is really bad, like 757 area, towards DC, and richmond. This is why i went with tanabe, im trying to fly stealth

To the guy that said a cop can pull you over by watching your car and not using radar, that is retarded and false. Yes, he can pull you over, yes he can give you a ticket. Without proof you will more then likey win in court. Hell i had a ticket overturned in Va for speeding because the cops radar was over due calibration.

To the OP, when i lived in the 757 area i had cops that knew me by name in my civic until i went stock and it is a big area . If that cop has a hard on for you, you will more then likey be pulled over agian and agian. My suggestion, bang his old lady, that will shut him up for awhile

contrary to popular belief, it is not necessarily illegal for a police officer to "break the road laws" just because he doesn't have his lights on.

officers will get calls for silent approaches, etc, with no lights or siren, or if they are trying to catch up to a stolen car, but are waiting to turn on lights and siren til they get backup, etc.
Sorry but thats wrong. I am an ex Sheriff's Officer. At the acedemy they drilled into us if you (the officer) are breaking any laws speeding, running a red light, stop sign...you must have both your lights and your sirens on. We had to watch this video where a mother was telling a story about her son who was killed by a speeding cop that was only running with his lights on. The cop and department got sued and lost BIG.

I know most cops do what they want anyway and speed to calls without lights or sirens, but if something were to happen they would lose their asses.

They are subject to the same laws as any of us and unless they are responding as an emergency vehicle (lights and sirens) they shouldn't be breaking the law.

If that's true, then crotch rockets should have straight pipes too.

Frankly cops mostly pull over imports with aftermarket exhaust. The Harleys and domestics usually aren't bothered. Same with front plates. Vette's and Camaros get a pass, we don't.
i disagree with that. i came from a domestic and crotch rocket background. I was NOT ONCE pulled over on the rocket, but pulled over in the Saleen many many times for loud exhaust and no front license plate. I'll admit though, my saleen was loud... longtubes, borla, off road h pipe, 3 inch exhaust. I scared lil children :-D.

VA sux. Any state that bans a radio receiver (AKA - radar detector) must be run by jackasses.

Fight it.

I've been pulled over because of my Invidia. The officer decided to let me go, but with a ticket for not having my drivers license with me (left wallet at home). At least he didn't look under the car.
