Default My rebuilt engine eats oil.

I threw a rod in my previous, and original engine, so I ended up having a shop rebuild it for me. They have done many other S2000's and have not heard any ill effects from them so I felt very comfortable.

The car started off eating a lot of oil. Probabbly about .5 quart every 100-200 miles. Since then I've put about 15,000 miles on it in a relativly short amount of time. I do mainly highway trips of 250 miles every weekend at the minimum. The oil consumption has gotten better but not by that much. It now consumes 3/4 quart every 500 miles. Even compared to other stories here on S2ki that number still seems very high to me.

In the rebuild they put in the 4 bolt oil jets and a spoon headgasket but those were the only things that were changed. I have tried the krank vents with no change what so ever.

In the beginning I went back and they gave it a once over. There were no leaks or anything and they said that oil consumption should improve.
So my main question is should I go back to the shop? They told me a 12 month warranty on it, parts/labor.

I'm not a mech but that much does seem excessive. If it's not leaking it's being burned. At a minimum it would seem to have a negative effect on plugs.
Since you've put 15k on the OD since the rebuild, the rings should be fully worn in.
I have had cars (new) in the past that used a lot of oil, but that was many years ago and I think autos were built a little looser than they are today.
I would contact Honda and get their opinion. It may be important, or it could be just an aggrivation that you'll have to accept.

Did they use a honda shortblock or did they just replace the bearings and rings?
