I'm wondering if this could be a San Diego problem!

Could it be that one or more dealers in the SD area got a bad batch of oil filters?

Or could it be a certain sloppy service tech?

S2KALI - How is your car now? I spoke to Ball after your incident they acted like it was no big deal.

Lets try to keep on top of this issue in the forum, this sure doesn't sound good.

After reading this post, I went out and bought a fire extinguisher to keep in the car. I always thought it would be a good idea, but this thread convinced me.

Rick- Will you be making a leather holder for the fire extinguisher? It is definitely time to go get an extinguisher. I've got one at home, now it's time to get some for the vehicles.

One note about Honda, oil filters and the 1/4 turn past hand tight rule. I've noticed on my previous Integra and the S2000 that you have to tighten the filter pretty well or it will eventually loosen and back off. Honda actually changed the design of the filter in the 90's because they were backing off so much. I think the vibrations from the high revving motors tends to loosen them because I did not have the same problem with my old Civic.

Ditto on the fire extinguisher.

Now how will all the clever S2000 owners install/store it???

Maybe a Rick's accessory?

Maybe a combo trunk subwoofer enclosure and fire extinguisher mount?

Maybe a Muz trunk storage unit with special Velcro straps for fire extinguishers?

Maybe a Digrappa/Spoon/"fill in blank" STB with fire extinguisher bracket......the possibilities are limitless.

Or maybe someone put espresso in my coffee cup and I'm digressing due to excessive caffeine!

Hopefully it's a Halon unit.

It is. If found a polished 2.5 pound Halon unit for $90 that was the same as the one sold by Griot's garage for $140.

My father and i both have s2000's and he got his oil changed at deland honda and two days later the oil filter came loose and the same thing happened! oil dropped and his car caught on fire! He figured out the filter was loose and tightened it added more oil and drove it to honda! They warranteed the burned parts and checked for internal damage! Good luck!!
