WOW! You guys are very lucky. rolling a convertible doesn't always have a relatively happy ending.

I learned the hard way after sliding sideways on an interstate at 65mph to avoid a dog in the road and almost going over a bank that was 45% grade and filled with trees at the bottom....No animal is worth dying to avoid and most of the time, simple braking and praying that they little ####er moves is your best chance.

I ride motorcycles and this is what I have learned from near misses with deer. Swerving won't help because most of the time they change course just before impact anyway.

Next time, lay on the horn and hit the brakes, no swerving!
Yeah, but deer are much much more dangerous than groundhogs and dogs. A deer stands taller and is much more massive. Several sports cars, Miata, S2000, Boxster, Vette, 911, etc would all go right under the body of a deer. The car sweeps the forest rat off it's little hooves and you've suddenly got a 200 lb meat missile sliding up the hood towards the windshield. There is no pat answer for forest rats. Brake, steer, scream as the situation demands. But mainly keep scanning the road ahead especially near dusk and dawn. And if you see one, assume he's got four or five friends right behind him and brake hard!

I swerved to miss a deer last Sunday, I had to avoid it because it was the size of a small moose. I wasn't speeding or drunk, but it was about 20F outside and I had zero-traction. I lost control and went into the grass median, crossed into oncoming traffic and missed the only other car on the road by about 3ft. I stopped in the left hand lane. I got out, looked around and other than my license plate being bent, my lip having a small crack in it, and my car being covered in grass and dirt I didn't see any damage. A cop came up to see if I was OK, and he shined his light to reveal that my back passenger tire was unseated a little. So I called a tow truck through USAA and they got me, got me home, and the next day I filled the tire with air, it popped back into place, and I was good to go. I need to get it aligned, but other than that It's good.

Funny thing is, I had bought GT5 earlier that day and had been having traction issues with my 2001 S2000 in the game, which kept leading me into the grass on Tsukuba... lol

Damn man that sucks. Glad your ok.

I don't swerve for animals, if the bastards are in the way I go through them.

Did that to a bunny the other day. Poor little bugger.....

Hope you get into another S soon
