my s2k sucks!
My S2000 was mostly babied the first 600 - plenty of RPM variation, but maybe one or two runs up to 7000RPM in first. Had 22k mi that day for the dyno. It's been run hard since break-in but well taken care of.
I seem to remember the positive results from the Injen and AEM CAIs were taken on a car with its front bumper removed. I imagine leaving the bumper on has a similar effect to running a stock S2000 with the hood closed (-20 HP). It could be there's some sort of power-sapping low-pressure vacuum created in the vicinity of the intake in both these situations, since the car isn't moving. Not hard to believe when you see the amount of air being blown out of the exhausts. The question then is how much the car moving alleviates this problem, with both the stock and aftermarket intake systems. That's why time at the dragstrip is useful.
Yep, MitoNatto, it's the Amuse R1 exhaust I'll be testing. I'll bring my db meter too so I can see how it compared to a completely open exhaust, and will also be examining an air filter or two. Honestly, I'm doing the exhaust change mostly for the reduction in weight and the sound - if I can match Cal's "Mugen-powered" 197 on the same dyno (+4HP from baseline), I'll be happy.
Like Bieg and the Jeff at the dyno shop (who has run dozens of S2000s) have been saying, Honda did an extremely good job from the factory. Those not wanting to be disappointed in their mods should look at any power gains as a benefit tertiary to reduced weight and improved sound/looks. And even then, hold on to your stock parts - I sure am!

The 600 mile # is not a hard and fast one - ie, it is not a binary point after which the engine is broken in. In fact, most Honda engines are only fully broken in in 7500-10,000 miles according to the Honda factory engineers.
DJHohum, How many miles are on your car? May I suggest new properly gapped Iridium plugs, valve adjustment, and perhaps back to a stock intake or compare with stock intake on a dyno session.
After adjusting my fpr, my hp jumped up to the low 190s during a dyno session, and after that, I was able to adjust the valves, making the exhaust side consistent at 0.010" and decreasing the intake valve clearances by 20% to 0.008" (more valve opening to result); this is within spec.
No dyno since valve adjustment but the idle is more even, the car is quieter with less droning, which surprises me, and the exhaust pipe stays cleaner. Not sure what all this might mean on dyno, but I don't think the changes would be for the worse.

mine was a dealer demo car and still got 198,199,and 204 on the dyno but i broke it in properly after i got it with 140 miles already on it
and it has run a 13.9 in the 1/4 so go figure on the 600 mile break in, but its just now quit burning oil at 15k miles

Thank you for attending!
I had a blast. Nice cars, cool people, a dyno, bbq, and beer! `Nuff said
IMO, the best mod you can do is just a simple drop-in filter. Cal made 197 (Mugen exh, too) and SteveUCI gained 5 ponies over stock. I have not seen anybody lose power w/ it.
I think it`s time for an s2000 ONLY day. It would be interesting to see what kinda power we are making (or losing) w/ various mods. I`d even be willing to dyno a stock s2k, drop in a filter and re-dyno, add an exh and re-dyno, and add a header and re-dyno. With 20 confirmations I could make this happen. Also, I`m sure a few manufacturers would be willing to donate product to dyno. Who`s interested?
Time for me to get flamed: I said it once and I`ll say it again..if you want power go forced induction. If you just want to make your car more "fun", simply spend your hard earned money on suspension, brakes, and tires. I`ve seen over 30 s2000`s dyno and I can`t justify $700 intakes, $1300 headers, and $1200 exhausts. I`m sure a few of you can agree w/ me.
Jzr: Drop me a line when you go back to the shop, I`ll swing by.
Everybody: Thanks again for attending!!!!!

Ryan

Actually I question if any of those mods you mentioned would make the car more fun.
I suggest if you want to make your car more fun spend your hard earned money on performance driving school.
Just my opinion.
heres more info on my car.. i have 7500 miles, oil always topped off with mobil 1, babied the shit out of it b4 600 miles. one weird thing that i noticed is when my car was new i was able to chirp from 1-2 and sometimes 2-3 and now i cant come close to breaking the tires loose! i think there is definetly something wrong with my top end power because at the track i would get some kick ass 60ft times but still have some sucky ass et and trap speeds. and no its not my driving! any way heres my best time slip i have gotten.
