MY04 Trunk-lid rust

I thought the trunk was aluminum? If so, I wonder what's actually rusting.

Yeah, I have no problem sanding the edges down and painting over the rusted area, but what else is rusting that I can't see? And its the top of the trunk lid, which I wouldn't think gets too wet.

Well this is just bizzare. I don't ever remember seeing rust there on my '01.

Wait... those that have rust, do you have the OEM spoiler/wing? On my '01 I didn't, on my '04 I do. Maybe moisture is getting through from above, because of the holes drilled for the spoiler.

I would suggest using rust restorer before painting over. Otherwise, you risk bubbling paint later.
