Being that this is obviously a widespread problem for for MY04, I suggest that we document our names/VINs and contact Honda. We should press for an explanation of the issue to ensure that the fix isn't a band-aid. I don't want to be driving a rust bucket 10 years from now. We do not know what is going on in places we cannot see.

I sprayed it with a little rust check and will be done with it.

It's probably not the truck lid itself, but the way (or screws) used to hold the rubber pieces. I'm sure they had changed the supplier, or process, just a little causing that problem with MY04 models.

A little moisture may also be getting between the rubber pieces causing a little premature corrosion. I'm no expert, but I think a little attention in this area is better than repainting the whole trunk lid.

It will be interesting to see if the problem appears on the '05s a year from now. Mine presently has no rust there, but then it's only a month and a half old.
