Natural Aspiration and building the engine
Hello all... I recently picked up another engine for my S and am planning on building a new heartbeat over the winter. My questions are what advice do you have to build a naturally aspirated engine to get the most horsepower possible? What is the maximum HP i can expect to get without forced induction? Can you recommend which company to go with for parts or is there a tuning shop that I should be looking at. At this point I am not worried about money. It may take a year to build so I have plenty of time. Any and all advice is appreciated since I am very new to building Honda engines.
Thanks,
Roger
Thanks,
Roger
I was just reading an article that said, "You can go as fast as you want to go, for as long as you can afford it."
What's the build budget, and how often do you want to have to pay for overhauls? You can get pretty crazy if the bank account if fat enough.

I have a fairly sizable bank account for my project. I'm looking to build something that is realitvely low maintenance but can keep up with the Jones (aka: beemers, porsches, etc.) in traffic.

I have a strong preference for NA power, but on this car I decided to go FI. Initially I wanted to go with a full NA build (the works) and ITB's, but the proven reliablity and performance of FI eventually brought me to my senses.

If there is a problem beating anything away from a stoplight it's because to keep up with some cars off the line we have to light the tires or get spanked because it takes a while to reach the cars powerband. If that's your boggle then what you need is a big increase in low end torque, and/or lower gearing. A stroker kit will add torque, but if you really want low end power the turbo kits are the way to go. Long term reliability hasn't been proven the way it has with the centrifigual blowers like I have, so you might want to read some of the threads here on S2kI to get a feel for the current state of development and reliability.
If you're hard over on going NA I can't help much, becasue in the end I decided it wasn't a very good idea (but then again I had no special reason to go NA, and you might).
Why NA?
Check out www.Laskeyracing.com. They could built you a race S2000 engine. They got a package deal for $3500 with Benson sleeved block, Benson balanced and micrpolished crank, CP custom pistons and rings, pauter rods, OEM bearings and balanced and blue printed. This might be an over kill for an NA application!!
