My friends and I rented a s2000 for 24 hours. we drove it hard, but not into redline. stalled it a couple times. 14 hours but only 5 hours of driving after we got the car, the clutch strated to slip and soon the car was becoming dangerous to drive. we took the car back to the rental people early and they blamed us for everything.

Is it possible that we destoryed a clutch in 5 hours? the guy said it was a new clutch. Any advice you can offer would be immensely appreciated.

by the by, any news on a redesigned s2000?

It's certainly not indicative of a S2K that's driven hard. I'd say if it's a rental it's had the absolute crapola flogged out of it (=abuse). Also many rental places are dodgy and will blame a customer for a problem that previously existed in a vehicle.

Being a newbie, i would appreciate it if people would place their wheels and mods on display. I was just thinking 17 inch rims (don't know which ones look good), thinner tires, fogs, ground effects, clear headlights.

There is nothing inherently "defective" with the clutch in the car. Though you can certainly burn out any clutch if is not used properly, it is likely that other renters have similarly "abused" the car. Your best defense is to state the obvious, the clutch is worn out, but that previous abuse may have contributed/caused its early demise. Good luck.

In order to spin 9000 rpm the clutch is necessarily compact. Under normal use it is perfectly adequate, but under very hard use in can slip. Once slipping if it is not allowed to cool it will glaze and continue to slip, quickly burning flywheel and friction surfaces.

It can easily be ruined in 5 hours, in fact there are any number of people that could destroy a clutch on this car in thirty minutes.

No, neither the car nor the clutch is rumored for a redesign.
