Default Need some help.

So yesterday I was pulling my bags out of my trunk and I noticed a slight funky smell. Put my head in my trunk and smelled around a bit, smelled like something was dead in my trunk. The smell is noticeably stronger under the foam holder for the tools, but there is no real room between the carpet under there and the body of the car right?

So nothing should be in that area. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar issue, maybe a dead animal that you hit on the road and had some parts get stuck near the back of the car.

When I get home today I intend to check:

spare wheel well
under the carpeting in the trunk
in the rear bumper (from under the car)

Any other areas I should check.

This sux.

You probably have water trapped under your tool box. It is a common problem. Water leaks into the trunk and gets down below the foam tool box.

I was considering that, and when I pulled the tool box up it did look like it may have been damp (arms were full so I couldn't touch check). I'll probably just drill a small hole to let water drain from there anyway while I'm checking around. However the smell was very much of dead animal (years of dead deers on the road with a convertible in the summer). Either way I'll check for water/dampness as well.

thanks

i would strip your trunk completly. take out the carpeting. i took mine out last weekend for a different reason and found some wet grass or something underneath the carpeting. just clean it up and you should be good.

I had a field mouse in my trunk.

I caught him with a trap.

Maybe a mouse got trapped in a squeeze hole and died.
