Neighbors yelling "SLOW DOWN!"

There's a time and a place for everything. And heel toeing in a residential area at 3:00 PM on a weekend just doesn't work for me. But honesty, most of the asshats in my area aren't in sportscars, but in big SUVs that barrel down the block at full throttle, blasting the stereo and not paying any attention to the task at hand. And this is on the weekend, near the beach with pedestrians and kids EVERYWHERE!
It has been said that "Everyone who drives faster than me is an a$$hole, and everyone that drives slower than me is an idiot." This line tells you nothing about how to measure excessive speed; but rather about the perspective of just about everyone on the road. That said, I have been told to slow down before. I understand the case of mistaken identity. I have a loud exhaust. An old lady told me to slow down once when I was driving to work right around the street from me. I was doing the speed limit and I stopped and discussed speeders and reckless driving with her. She waves to me now. Now, when I drive on the highway and empty roads I admittedly drive fast. But I think that driving fast on an empty highway or country road is a calculated risk wherein you are risking (for the most part) your own skin and not the skin of others..
My problem lies in the blatant disregard for other people's lives that it takes to fly through a neighborhood. Innocent people are put at risk when you drive excessively through a residential area. I consider driveways to be unpredictable cross streets and I try to be aware of them, and all the potential dangers associated with them. People are unpredictable and the more people you have the more of a chance that there is something that will go wrong, whether it be your fault or not.
I enjoy empty stretches of roads that do not have cross streets, such as roads in and around the dragon. Nobody will pull out in front of you and no child will be chasing a ball in your path either. Now a deer might, and you might "discover" a fallen tree coming around a blind corner, but nobody said spirited driving came without personal risks. I am willing to risk my life for such thrills, but not the lives of the innocent.

<flamesuit on here too>
Driving through a residential area ANYTHING above the speed limit is stupid IMO. Luckily we have several cops that live near us and one that regularly runs radar IN the neighborhood. I LOVE it because I never speed in the area, he glares down the S, but I just smile and even wave at times.
Save the speeding for the track or at least the open road. My kids (4 and 5) are pretty damn good about not playing near the street but I've also seen them get caught up playing ball in the front yard or riding bikes in the driveway with friends and lost track of where they are and ended up in the road. They're kids for God sake. We're the adults so obey the freakin' laws and keep your damn eyes open at ALL times in subdivisions, etc. I'll be damn glad when they outlaw talking on a cell without a handsfree device while driving too. It seems like everytime I get run out of my lane, etc. it's usually a lady on her cell and sometimes doing makeup at the same time.
2 cents.
here's my perspective (and forgive me if it sounds crass) ...
coming to my neighborhood and driving more than 'safe and reasonable' speed (default speed limits in non-marked residential areas is 20mph) is the equivalent to me shooting my Glock in my back yard. Don't worry ... i've been doing it for years and nothing bad will happen.
for those lost in the analogy ... take a physics class. You may be surprised at the real impact.

I live out in the country. Across the street is a state park. I got flagged down by a state park ranger for my "excess speed." I have a 3" header back exhaust, 25mph sounds like 50 to the average person. Also, he has no jurisdiction on the public road outside the state park anyways. I basically told him that my speed is my own business, he isn't a cop, and I would like to see him get a cop to write me a speeding ticket based on the estimation of a park ranger with no camera or radar gun. Since then, he just glares at me when I drive by. I make sure to keep it in VTEC for him well down the road.
p.s. No kids at play, everybody that lives on the street besides me is over 50.

For all you guys with the fart pipes on....sorry but I think a 4 banger with loud exhausts sounds horrible as does your average person.
Heel-toe into 2nd/1st at a maximum of 35 mph? getting yelled at by neighbors for deafening them from a block away at a "max of 26 mph"?
How much more pathetic does it have to get before you decide its enough and get on a proper track to do your heel-toe downshifts and "lateral acceleration"?
Please dude, contact your local auto-x club already.

I am not one to speed around the neighboorhood. I did have low tire pressure while driving into my parking spot one day and heard a lady yell "Damn Mother####in ppl driving like raging a-holes." I think she was already pissed about something and a few squeals while turning on low tire pressure ruffled her feathers even more.
