Heel-toe into 2nd/1st at a maximum of 35 mph? getting yelled at by neighbors for deafening them from a block away at a "max of 26 mph"?

How much more pathetic does it have to get before you decide its enough and get on a proper track to do your heel-toe downshifts and "lateral acceleration"?

Please dude, contact your local auto-x club already.
I don't think there's anything wrong with doing a heel-toe around the neighborhood... it's the proper way of driving to put less stress on the tranny. It's not our fault that people don't understand the concept of an engine revving even if it's driving slow.

This has happened to me a few times already because of my exhaust... but not with neighbors... just random people around the different towns.

This one time, existing off a highway there's a stop sign, which leads to a local 35 mph road. Now across the street from this entrance lives an old man that sits outside his house everyday when I come home from work. I always pull from this stop sign shifting at around 3k... not fast or loud at all and decides to start flaring his arms and yelling to slow down (I was doing maybe 15 mph when he yelled). So the next day... he was outside and I was like oh yes. As I pulled away... I gunned it nice and hard for his comparo and he didn't even yell this time... he just waved his arms kind of saying "Forget it... hopeless"... lol. Now I drive normal once again and he doesn't say anything... I think he learned.

Another time I was cruising down a street right after pulling from a parking spot in 2nd gear at like 22 mph maybe. This idiot decides to jump in the middle of the street in front of my car waving his arms in a downward motion to slow down. I got so pi$$ed off that I just accelerated a little more and didn't slow down. He definitely moved his fat a$$ our of the way. He has no right to be judging me like that cause of the car I drive. I bet if I was in a Cadillac or something he wouldn't have done it... screw that. I know some of you are going to be like... "oh you're careless"... yada yada, but you know what... he shouldn't have jumped out in front of my car gesturing for something that wasn't even the case. Maybe I should have stopped, got out of the car and started running in place... maybe he'd get the hint to go exercise a little and lose some weight... idiot.

Yep... a little venting... lol.

Sorry that I'm evoking your pathos.

I always heel-toe in the Honda. Not enough torque if you don't downshift, IMHO. And remember this is happening in the RS4 (which I think has the sweeeetest exhaust rumble).

And already a member of the local Auto-X club, thanks.

Thanks for your intelligent and well-thought out reply.

Oh, well, as long as you're putting less stress on the transmission by properly downshifting into 1st gear in a residential area and are signed up to the local club, by all means, bother your neighbors completely justified, obviously.

We wouldn't be having this lame-ass discussion on the porsche or ferrari forums. The S is an awesome car, and I love it as much as the next owner here, but it puts me into the same group of people as you, and other people who feel the need to make their presence known in quiet/calm/little neighborhoods by revving their engine uselessly (I have nothing against having an aftermarket exhaust).

As if you need the torque going at that speed, in those circumstances... sigh. Just because that 'The s doesn't have torque at the low end of the power band' is a true statement doesn't mean you rev your engine high enough to keep it in the optimum torque range in your goddamn suburban neighborhood going at 25 mph.

My bad for even replying in the first place, I'm getting the feeling like I stepped on dog poop by ever posting in here.

Your point is well taken and I agree with you, but if he's doing the speed limit, what does it matter?

The neighbors didn't come to him complaining about the noise being too loud, they came to him complaining that he was speeding, in which he wasn't. Perfectly understandable if they came to him complaining about the noise, but they didn't. I'm not taking sides here... I'm just trying to keep to the matter at hand which is that the guy came to him complaining about him speeding when he wasn't.

Either way... he agreed to not rev the car high anymore, so I think he's showing that he is a mature guy that has respect for his neighbor's request.

The people that you are talking about that put you in a category that you don't like are the younger guys that do find it a need to make the presense known, which I agree is retarded.

Nice snobbery.

In the same category as "me?"

Of course nobody "needs" to drive with any aplomb. But then really, we could all be driving Corollas.

I don't enjoy bogging in the engine. That's just me. I was only at 6k rpms. The 9k revving was in my garage with them standing with me as an example.

And like others said, it was only to clarify that loud does not equal fast.

And like others said, if it was the duramax diesel with straight pipes or the Harley Davidson, would you still think the same thing?

I'm sorry that you have to be lumped in with us "S2000 owners." You can also be sorry that you have to be lumped in with us immature RS4 owners as well.

And sorry about stepping in the doggy doo doo. But the putting the doo doo in your own mouth (foot-meet-mouth) is entirely your own doing.

FWIW, I have a STOCK exhaust and have sound deadened my car to make it quieter inside. I couldn't stand the 4.57 gear whine, glad to back in an OEM diff.

But once again, thanks for the sweeping generalizations and stereotyping.

That is the most annoying part. Same goes for all cops as well. Harley's and 5.0 Rustangs come down the street setting off every alarm in sight and cops think it's the best thing ever. But come us with our 'not nearly as loud' S2K... and we're automatically speeding and causing noise pollution.

Wonderful.

I have to agree with CKit. I have the same response from others. The car sounds much faster than it really is going. I think with the smallness of car and loud sound give people an audible illusion. Sounds deep. Anyway, I am 59 and not into street racing and the neighbors yelled at me when I first moved in my neighborhood also. I ways going 25mph accelerating out of 1st gear. It is quite interesting that even thought a lot of S2K owners think that the car doesn't have a loud significant sound, I do. I love the sound, you just have to get it revving in the appropriate range.

this didn't happen on a residential street, but last Friday, I heel-toed a 3-2 downshift to go around a corner at ~30 mph, and at the next light about 1/2 mile ahead, I had to slow down, but the guy in the Jeep Wrangler that was behind me tried to pull aside me, and yelled "slow down!" just before he had to slam on his brakes from rear ending the cars in front of him
