I do completely understand the generalization that all teenagers are bad drivers...however wreckless and inexperienced are probably better generalizations. I for one have gotten over my wreckless side and am working on the inexperienced part.

Some of us are actually skilled at driving...I for one have more time to put into it than adults who work and have families to tend to.

Plus, you never hear about the good younger drivers, you only hear about the ones that wrap their cars around trees and need to get a replacement...

id say get an 04. despite what anyone says about lack of responsibilty. yes your young, but depending on your education, which concommetently effects your level of respect, you could enjoy the S alot. but like im saying, respect of the car, the road, and others will make a big difference. i grew up drag racing and offroad racing and thus understood the dynamics of what was going on in an accident at high speeds. its not cool, so if you get a gun of this caliber, use it only when necessary, dont just pull it out anywhere. as an example for those who say an s2000 is no good for younger crowd, i dont like to stereotype, and ive seen 17 yr old kids with cars alot worse, or shall i say cars that are alot easier to go fast in. Z06, any ls1 camaro, cobras, these are cars ive seen at the street races, ive talked to kids 16 and 17 who have these cars, and they do donuts, and burnouts, etc etc. they are far closer to death in a car like that than you are in an s2000. but they learn respect fast, especially if they have common sense. now if they go out drinking and driving etc, then they deserve what they get, its the innocent who dont deserve.hehe, sorry about my huge runon, i just get into it and type like a crazy man. best bet, if you wanna drive hard, take your s and go to the first autocross they have, so you can get a feel for the car as it looses grip in turns etc, youll know its limits. and when it rains, pick a huge parking lot, and go slide around, learning how the car slides, its a whole different world from your old scooby. anyways, take it easy, and yeah, get an 04+ you wont regret it. dave

To answer the original question, you should have no difficulty finding an S2000 with under 20K for $25K.

On the other hand, you might want to gather a few insurance quotes first.

C'mon guys, leave the poor kid alone.

Get an s2000 kid, just don't take it out in anything but bone dry weather. Having said that, if you treat it with a little respect , it will help you to imprive they way you drive. It's a much better chassis balance than most rear drive (no traction control) cars and you could do worse, especially being from the States. I mean, any US muscle car will put you into a wall alot quicker with their V8 engine and 1950s bus chassis design. Sometimes a bigger engine does not mean better.

Ach I'm rambling now. Get one, just treat it well and ignore these guys who claim that they can drive because they are older than you. I've been to the States, none of you can drive (there's no corners anywhere!!). Easy, just playing !!

Hey Gramps, I'm 17, put me and you in an autocross and I'd bet money on me walking circles around your ass in the entire event

As for Sedlmeir, definately get one... however, IF it is your first RWD Car, just take about 3 months to get to learn the car before you start experementing with a LITTLE tail happy oversteer, then gradually get to where you can control it. I never go big on oversteer unless i'm in Autocross, so only keep the small stuff that you KNOW you can control with ease on the street in order to keep yourself and others away from danger. You'll love it man, it feels much faster than it is (Still faster than a stock scoobie) and is ALSO a panty dropper

sedlmeier101 don't listen to the old farts, they always post the same crap to every young driver that posts here. It's always the same bs about you should start with a type-r , or make sure you take driving school because the S is a hard car to drive. Oversteer, yeah right, I guess thats why the S is so hard to drift. Only time you should be careful is under rainy conditions. True some of them give great advice, but I think they all have some hate and jelousy towards us younger drivers that work and can afford the S, and wish the S would have been out when they were younger.

As far as getting an S for around 25k, that's more then enough. I would personally go with the rx-7 though. Looks of the S I think are just below the rx-7, and the rx-7 does perform better. Also you will probably like it more when you start modding it. True the rx-7 reliability is not as good as the S, but I think it gets brought up to much of being unreliable because the rx-7 is still very reliable if taken care of properly. But if you really want the S then all the power to ya man, just make sure you know it's history before buying it.
