The majority of this posting is a joke...the bottom line is if you're sideways in a subaru, or backwards in an S, you shouldnt be driving either one. These are cars. Not go carts. Everyone needs to grow up a little bit, whether you're 16 or 50. Oversteer MAY be an issue for some, but if it is, you shouldnt be driving on the road. You should be on the track (if you experience oversteer while on the street, you are driving wrecklessly and you know it). I say buy the car, drive it with some sense, and you'll be fine; just like everyone else on this forum.

When I was young I was a decent driver only because I didn't have much to get me into trouble

Today life as a teenager is so different, actually inconceivable for me to imagine a 17yr old with a WRX for the winter and an s2k for the summer. Ok I am not 150yrs old but this just blows me away.

What scares me are the teenagers/low 20s driving >100 mph on the DC highways and making videos of it. It was on 20/20 or one of those shows about a month ago (so it has to be true ). One mother that was interviewed was questioned how she felt about her son (BTW living in her basement I think) doing something so dangerous and she replied that it was like being a pilot that if her son would die doing this he would die doing something that he loved. Wow. But what about the innocent people he kills and the other accidents he has already caused of others (typically happens after they fly by). I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

A few months ago a 16yr old took daddy's audi A6 at high speed and killed a pastor and his family in their minivan on their way home from Sunday church.

Yeah the teenage driver is a generalization but I don't read about many middle or old aged men/women doing these things with these cars. Instead you see them in the ditches with their *SUV* during bad weather in the winter or the accidents they cause flying by an innocent person trying to drive reasonable.

Just my $0.02

Just so ya know fuzy24, these "go Karts" do 0-60 in 3 seconds flat and judging from my own experience in formula mazda and other formula car motorsports, its the closest thing many people will get to a formula 1 car, or any high powered open wheel race car at that. They have plenty of snap oversteer when not properly set up as well as massive understeer and other types of set up problems that race drivers face. the only point im trying to make is that me, being an 18 year old kid who is obviously still a teenager can drive quite well, although i have been instructed and in fact im now an instructor for mercedes AMG out at Texas Motor Speedway occasionally. I just think its ridiculous that all of you older guys need to bring the younger guys down like that, and criticize us and tell us that there is no such thing as a good teenage driver.

Thank God, you're our proof!

Like I've said before on this forum, skill is not age, it's experience, but most of all it's the person's natural born ability to adapt to the car and the road that makes a great driver. Some people have some talent, some people have a lot of talent, and some people have no talent.

It's kinda like sports, hell I suck at basketball and football, but I'm damn good at driving. Football players were born with the mind to be physical and strong, and racers were born with great reflexes and visual adaptation. That's how I see it anyways...

Get the car you'll love it. i am about to turn 21 and i've had mine for a little over a year. Geico gave me a good deal on insurance. I'll agree that teenagers don't have experience, however good judgment is part of being smart and responsible. I've been driving since i was 17, never been in an accident, never gotten a speeding ticket, nor do i screw around because i have an S. I'll also agree that the S can be twitchy, especially on cold tires/roads, don't push the limits on public roads, its not worth it. i pay for my car/insurance/gas and what have you........my parents are paying for my college education. i might end up getting rid of it when i go to med school or even before that just b/c i need to work less and pay attention to school more.........but it has been more than worth it so far. i'll admit, i'm not your average teen driver, but tell me i'm not a good driver b/c I'm young and i'm gonna fight ya

There is no such thing as a good teenage driver.

Every single time this issue comes up we magically have a number of "race car drivers" pop out of the woodwork. Yeah bullshit. Car control is but one aspect of safe driving. Simply put, teenage children do not have the mental maturity, nor the on road experience to make them safe drivers. These two things do in fact come with age and experience.

When I was younger comments like mine pissed me off too. But as I grew up (and spent tens of thousands on driving instruction) I learned they are in fact based in reality. I guess it's something you really only realize when looking back.

I'm older and still not a great driver, nor a particularly safe driver. Not sure where the average peak is.

Steve, I'm willing to bet my brand new S that every last person driving in WRC or F1 was a better driver at 17 than you are right now.
Steve isnt a prick all of time, alot of times he is just being sarcastic....... most people are too dense to understand and like to whine about personal attacks when he really isnt attacking anyone.

----in response to the "better driver" comment, um... its fairly obvious that more driving experience results in better ability.....your post was asinine.

I knew I was a crappy driver, this is why I drove a 91 civic hatch with 200k+ miles up until I was 19. I beat the piss out of that car, and probably did a few things I shouldn't have. When the car met it's end, I was out a whole $2k that I bought it for. I know there must be some teenagers out there that know what they are doing, but they are probably few and far between. My advice to be to find a used, RWD beater that you can learn on. You will probably save yourself quite a bit of money and injury that way. If you are hell bent on getting an S, learn how to drive it the right way.
