Chazmo, guys, thanks so much for the info!! This forum definetly rocks!! I can't wait to test drive one!! BTW, does anyone know whether it is possible to replace the older tranny with the slicker new ones? Or is it too much of a hassle? (once the old one dies or grinds too much ofcourse)

oops, forgot to ask...how do you guys compare the shifter to the g35coupe/350z? Are the earlier s2ks smoother than the latest 350z? My friend has a new G35 6-speed and I didn't like the shifter at all! I drove a later Miata model and loved the smoothness of it. How does the '01 S2k compare to a '01 Miata?

These were the differences between the '01 and '02 models. I copied them from someone else here

- refined transmission
- heavier clutch
- glass rear window
- defrost switch on dashboard
- enhanced white line detail on tach display from 0 to 9000
- 10 watts per channel power increase in stereo along with new face
- tweeters in doors
- silver trim details inside on doors
- new silver badge on lower door sill
- new leather wrapped shift knob
- vinyl center console instead of carpet
- standard floor mats WITH 2 securing posts
- metal dead pedal to match design of other pedals
- larger exterior logos front and rear
- silver trim rings around taillights
- 3rd brake light has more of a spoiler lip than just a flat projection out
- new color blue and lighter/brighter color silver
- no 2-tone interior like in '01, when you order red it is ALL red!
- Soft top latches and striker plates are different (now same as from hardtop).
- Mode knob no longer turns on the stock radio.
- Wiper relay no longer makes clicking sound on intermitent mode.
- Color in between spokes on the alloy wheels is slightly different.
- Smoother quieter transmission & clutch (thought this deserved to be mentioned again).
- Suspension feels a touch softer (need to verify if any part numbers are different).
- Door pocket nets (small but they hold things like a garage door remote).
- Owners are reporting much less oil consumption on the '02.
