I think you better read the article you just posted, it clearly says "13.3 @ 108MPH"...

Ummm. 13.3. Damn that's slow. I think I'll ask for my deposit back. The M3 can run with Carreras and C5's, but not Vipers. Silly me for thinking the new M3 rocks.

13.3 vs. 14.0 = 7 car lengths. From the stands at the local dragstrip, 7 car lengths looks like an ass whoopin' to me. But then again, you may have a different definition. (Heck, I've never seen 5.0 0-60 published anywhere like you continue to quote, the lowest I've seen is 5.3 from R&T, but I'll take your word for it).

Whatever. If you bought your s2k to drag race, you should get off the pipe. I can buy a used AWD Eagle Talon or Rustang 5.0 for less than half of the s2k's msrp that will crush an s2k. The s2k runs through the twisty back roads with few peers. It gets 'invitations' from unseen ladies (I've gotten business cards on my windshield from women I've never met). The top will drop in six seconds. And, there is a pretty cool group here on the web.

Go drive your damn car.

cdelena

I have seen an s2000 consistantly beat an M coupe around Road America and I have personally outrun an M roadster at Road America.

I'd guess some of that is drivers. I would not have an M coupe, but the two I have seen on the track were fast.. one clearly faster than the S2K's.

Y2KS2K:

Without even looking at the numbers it is easy to see why the E46 will be so fast.
Even a 13.0 is not impossible for that car.
It will be a beast. You won't find anyone who will stand up for the s2k more then me. This war is not a fair one though. The car you are comparing it to will be Damn fast, to say the least.

frayed==> You assume to much, you assume I bought my S2K to drag, in fact, I have spent more time AutoXing it then I have dragged it. Sorry I lead you to be prejudiced against me in that way

Gentlemen:

Here in the Silicon Valley, the M3 will be near the $60K range. Yes, I know list is supposed to be $45-48K. But we of all people know that this is only a dream.

Here in the Valley, the S2K is a $40K car with a list of $33K.

What's my point? Well, you spend about $20-30K more, you better damn well get a faster car!. Hell with $10K spent on a S2K (re: supercharger) we could have a car that could hang with the M3 and still cost less.

However, the S2K will never be able to carry 4 people in a pinch. It will never have the luggage space and the "BMW" feel. These are two very different cars.

Like someone said earlier. I'd buy both if I could. The S2K is the the best bang for the buck! Also the S2K is a convertible! In my book that gets big points. The M3 should be awesome. I'm just waiting to hear from someone who actually owns one.

Oh and by the way, if both cars are stock, the M3 will kick the crap out of the S2K. But who cares?! Enjoy each car for what it is.

I think the M3 is going to be an excellent sports car. My problem would be having one as a daily driver (given the fact that it's also practical with seating for 4). C&D quoted it as delivering 13mpg on the European city cycle. Is this the MPG a typical driver would get? If so, that would be hard to live with imo.

Not that it's totally, or even remotely relevant, but I consistently get better gas mileage in my E36 than in the S2000.
