Default New S2000 Questions

I just bought a MY00 with one owner and less than 17k miles. The original owner traded it in for a Maserati. The car is in immaculate condition and you can tell that it never saw the snow or probably even the rain. It received regular oil changes and maintenance based on mileage not time frame. I checked the VIN and all recalls were taken care of. The car feels great, it has a lot of power and zero signs of smoke upon cold or warm start.

I have yet to change all the fluids as a precaution but I came to a major concern. I was going to get it compression tested and leak down tested just for piece of mind. I read these boards and some people just spam, "Gotta get a compression test!" and sometimes it seems like kissing a girl and someone saying, "gotta get an AIDS test!"

Nevertheless, I contacted a Honda service facility and got pricing and scheduling information. After explaining the situation and the car he told me that I don't need either test. He also mentioned that if there was nothing wrong with either the car or the oil that I shouldn't really be concerned. He said as long as the oil was changed on a timely fashion even a few times that the engine will be fine and that my time and money would be wasted on both tests. In addition, he mentioned that it is a Honda engine and not a Ford (LOL).

It is also worth mentioning that when I bought the car the dealership (separate from where I got the test quotes) did grant me a 30 day warranty.

With everything I explained, what should I do?

From what I'm reading, it sounds like you are extremely meticulous with your car, and that you'd like to have it performed for piece of mind. For <$100, both can be done, so why not? Even if it does turn out stellar, at least you can confirm that you bought a pristine car.

lol @ ignorance of "not a ford"

Im willing to bet more F20/F22's break down than the 4.6Ls in the mustang.

Ive never heard of a retainer crack in a mustang...hah

I was just curious how many people actual get the tests done? What symptoms would a car have that would deem those tests necessary?

I just bought a MY00 also with even less miles and I didn't have either test done. I just wasn't worried about it with such low miles and it had an older adult owner. I am in the process of changing ALL the fluids and filters now since I don't know the full service history. Probably not much besides oil changes.

I have been thinking about it ever since I have owned an S. Go ahead, and do it. Get it off your mind!

it was one of the first things i got done when i bought my s2000. that and a valve adjust and full fluid change. its well worth the money to make sure your car is running at 100%.

How many miles were on your car when you bought it?

Low miles and the car seems to run fine, plus you already own it, I'd skip the test as an unnecessary expense.
