I don't have data to put to the lateral grip, but I'd assume it's a similar story. Add a light layer of snow on the road into the mix, and you're looking at about a 50% increase in stopping distance.

Winter tires are worth their weight in gold, especially on these cars for those that choose to drive them year round in places that experience cold winters. A lightly used set of winter tires for $200 or a new set for $400 will more than make up for the deductible alone in most cases, and certainly save money compared to the increased premiums.

Just some food for thought for anyone perusing this thread that I frequently bring up this time of year in any form I can from in person, to social media, to forums.
Do you have a source for any of the data in the first paragraph? It seems to directly conflict with this video I just watched yesterday:
Granted, the video is comparing summer to winter tires, but I can't imagine all seasons would be significantly worse than summer tires in the cold.

Ask them to find you the comps they used for estimate. Show them the comps you found. Show them the car you intend to buy.

would it matter if I already bought the car? I found something I like and I don't want to wait for weeks to get this sorted out.

Not unless you tell them.

I don't think it's going to matter if you bought the car now in the end they're going to give you a check for whatever is decided. They really have no decision or involvement with the next car you get. If you have any doubts you should ask just ask your insurance agent. If you see another S you like buy it. It took me almost a year before I found another S. ...and it was my daily.

i think i am going to put a down payment on the car I want. And I am going to insurance it with a different company (progressive gave am a decent quote despite my admission of the accident and full disclosure). I would like to keep the two separate. There was already confusion with my credit union when I tried to apply for a car loan. They were like, "Don't you already have the same car with us?".

I think the estimator might be using the 03-05 as a basline. I need to make sure they understand the difference between a Ap1 with 50K miles vs an Ap2 with the same and the fact that either of those cars can be 10k - 27k in price based on overall condition. Most good 04 on the market start at 23k anyways.

I'll update you guys.

I think his hypothesis regarding the ABS system could have something to do with the results in that video. Here's a link to one TireRack test with the results being nearly exact to the 50% I gave when dealing with snow. For the life of me I cannot find the source for freezing temps and dry pavement with the head to head of all season and winter tires, but I'm finding multiple places where it says 30% without the actual test information.

How much do you think this car is worth? Dealer is asking 26k~ I am thinking of this as my replacement (as close as one can get!)

I have already put a deposit on this. I want to hear what others think before I say what I will end up paying for it (I want you guys to tell me what a good price would be without dealer TTL dealer fees etc.)

I think thats a little high even for dealer price for that year, common color. Low miles is a plus but def better deals out there.
