Exclamation No keyhole trunk? Connecting rod not needed?

Hi s2ki community,

I've been using search to find an answer to this, but have yet to find any thread that can help me...

I bought a MG1 carbon fiber trunk that i would like to install, but this trunk does not have a keyhole. I'm not sure if the actuator would work without the keyhole in place, purely through the trunk release button in the glove box or just the remote.

Does anyone know the answer to this question? Does the connecting rod only serve the purpose of opening the trunk using the keyhole? Would the trunk open using the remote or glove box button, if i were to install the just the actuator and no keyhole/connecting rod?

Thanks everyone in advance!

if you open your trunk and press glove box button you will here it try to open, you dont need key hole, the actuator works on the lower latch only.

Thanks for letting me know. Yeah, I figured you wouldn't need the rod to open the trunk since I've seen some people that have installed a reverse camera into the keyhole.

Keep in mind without the key lock there is no way to get into the trunk without power which can be the result of a bad battery or disconnected wire. IUnlikely -- but possible. (Yeah you can take the interior apart and get in that way.) All the electrics/mechanicals are in the trunk lid as is the wiring for the 3d brake light.

Thanks for the response Chuck. I guess that this is the risk that anyone with an aftermarket trunk / not using the keyhole has to take.

You can try to design up a way to have a steel cable/pull cord to open without power. Tie it in the way the stock key lock rod connects and find a place to run it out behind the bumper where it is hidden. Then you have another way into it if needed.

yeah, you could get a bicycle brake cable and snake it in to the interior.
