1. I've always made sure the rear two pins are in the holes properly.
2. After both are in then latch the rear down.
3. Then latch front.


No problems.

The Honda directions are just the opposite - position the top with the pins inserted in the rear holes, latch the front and then the rear. However, it's not magic - whatever works for ya...
