Default NRV-OUS

Ok, ssorry for sounding like a noob, but heres why im nervous/worried/freaked out, so, im driving my S today and pull out of work, nice open stretch thats alllllll clear, so i decide to let the S stretch its legs and I redline it....or attempt to....I hit about 6-7rpms (vtec) and the car feels like i slammed on the brakes....rpms drop, i shift gears and take 2nd to same point and beyond, no problem. At the light I try this again, same problem, but again all other gears are fine. After trying this one more time it seems fine. Should I be freaking out, im hoping its something so obvious that it makes me look silly...better than a problem with my S. TIA

Usually, when the car hasn't hit 3 temp bars, you can't take it into VTEC at all... Just wait until the car is all the way warmed up and it will be fine. I believe that it's an engine feature, but someone who knows more can come in and answer if this isn't enough info for you.

the car wasn't warmed up, and you hit the ecu's imposed limiter.

It's a cold engine safety built in, just like described. Don't try to redline it until it's up to operating temp.

As Eric says, it's a soft redline for when your engine isn't fully warmed up. Interesting that it would rev out in the other gears, though.

Take it easy, champ. Warm her up first before going hard.

This problem is answered in the FAQ's, too.

whhhhhhheeeeeeeeew

huge load of my chest, i normally let it sit for about 1 minute when i leave work (or have it parked anywhere for a longtime) but today was the first where i jumped in, and had to go right away. Thanks for your replies guys, and god bless Honda for creating things like this to prevent dopes like me from ruining my toy. Thanks

it would take a few mins to get all the way up to operating temp. I find that on my drive to work I barely get the temp guage to 3 bars before I get to work.

well i saw someone post on here recently, and it was concurred that you dont have to let the car sit too long at first start up in the morning, i used to let it sit for like 2-3 minutes.
