Anyone that has been around racing knows that...
hp sells cars and torque wins races!

Interesting observations.

However no amount of data on paper will be a better substitute for behind the wheel action.

Actually, it's just the other way around - no amount of anecdotal, seat of the pants buttdynos by people who have no ability to tell the difference between 0.4 Gs and 0.5 Gs will be a better substitute for precise, exact calculations like what FCGuy has done. (Assuming, of course, that the initial data is accurate. A more precise calculation based on a real-world dyno of the F22C1 is needed.)

You guys also seem to forget the fact that you can still put 4.44 and 4.77 gears on an '04 and multiply that additional torque even more. You would have to get an '00-'03 with 5.22's (I'm making up that number) to keep up with it, and you would also be limited to a top speed of probably 115mph at that point.

You'd cruise around in 6th gear at 70mph doing 6000rpm.

No thanks.

As soon as I can afford to upgrade, I'm trading in my '02 on an '04 or '05. I absolutely love the new car!

Of course, with 4.56 gears on an '04, you'd reline 1st gear at a lowly 34 mph, 2nd at 52.2... 6th gear would only be good for 140.0 mph. 75 mph would be 4285 rpm. The highway cruising speed is fine, sure, but the speeds you'd reach in each gear are so rediculously low that you'd be shifting so much you'd probably loose time.

You'd get the same effect with running 5.37 gears in an '03. 75 mph would be at 5120 rpm. 9000 rpm in 6th would be 131.7 mph. (So the '04 would only have an 8.3 mph advantage in top speed.)

I think the one flaw in the above formula is it does not take into account all the little seemingly insignificent improvements which when considered in their totality make for some notable performance enhancements.

You can't just pick one single change, like the gears, and expect the two cars to be identical.

True - overall there are quite a few differences between the two versions. However, just keep in mind that the topic of this thread, as started by FCGuy, is strictly about the drivetrain.

There are other threads elsewhere to discuss the styling, suspension, tires, etc.

Not quite - if you had 100 lbs of torque, and a 12 speed gearbox, you are losing some time in the shifts, no?
