The Official S2000 CR Owners Thread
aieeeeeeeeeee ... someday I'm gonna learn!
Went to Lumberton Honda (NC) this morning to get the oil changed in my perfectly good, if 53k mileage, red 2006 S. The old location still does servicing, but I had to go to the new lot just off I-95 because the old store didn't have the right oil filter.
No sooner do I get there than the service rep says "oh that's my dream car ... but you should see the YELLOW one in the showroom!" Dadgummit, they just had to put the only thing better than a 2006 S right in front of me--a 2008 CR.
....
"say, I betcha we can get you this one for about the same payment!"
...
"drives great, don't she? I've never seen so many heads turn!"
...
"well if that's all you have TODAY, we can go that low."
...
(snif) why am I leaving my baby so soon for this silly yellow thing? No XM radio yet and I can't even get the top on and off myself! how did they talk me into this?
...
hmmm, that was a fun drive! I think I can weld up a hoist for the hardtop, or better yet, get a new girlfriend and keep scrunchies in the side pockets.
...
(after finally reading articles about the CR version and frantically dashing outside) phew! it DOES have air conditioning.
...
we'll see what happens next. Seriously, it was about time for things to start not working on the old S, and the interior was beginning to show my lack of resolve to not eat lunch and drink coffee while driving. NO EATING in the CR! And I could tell without being told that the suspension was stiffer, in a very good way, but couldn't put my finger on what was different about the steering. Now I know it's a quicker ratio, and as promised, less shuffling of hands in tight corners.
I guess I'm supposed to track it. We got any Formula Drift going on around here?

Thanks Marc! Here's the latest--
When I drove it off the lot, I was kicking myself pretty hard ... wishing it was all a bad dream and I didn't just trade my beloved red S, convertible in six seconds, that I was so used to, for a strange new more expensive yellow thing. The absolute low point was reaching reflexively for the XM selector, remembering it was suddenly gone, and hitting the CD button ... and realizing I left one of my favorite soundtrack CDs in the old car. Hope they haven't auctioned it yet, that was my last link to home.
But luckily the old S had only just gotten to the detail shop, and they gave me my CD back. And thinking of the higher payments for almost the same car I already had, I don't think I got to sleep until 5 in the morning.
Of course, the despair didn't last long. I started looking for things to like about my CR, and soon it began to heal the heart it had broken. If nothing else, the red S was the color of my undergrad alma mater NC State U, which lost most of its football and basketball games last year and probably will again this year. Now I have a yellow and black CR, so it can be my Steelers car!
Now I have 360 miles on it, and with every curve in the road, my respect and amazement grows for this incredible machine and the people who brought it to me. I know the reviews have said you won't notice the CR's improved handling in normal driving, but they are RONG!!! Everything is several notches above the conventional S--smoother upshifts and downshifts, quicker steering, gummier tires (I'm already saving for new Potenza 070s--I know from my red one that the S just isn't happy with low-end tires), better engine note and sound system performance with the hardtop, and the corners that had the red S chirping the tires and wiggling the rear end are now absolutely no fuss-no muss. The VSA light doesn't even come on.
And to my total surprise, I got 33 MPG on my first tank! The red S would do 25-26 and maybe 28 on long trips, but I guess that aero package really means something, and also the increased stiffness makes for more energy going to the road instead of flexing the chassis.
I still need XM radio and a completely warm and sunny day with a friend to ride without the hardtop, but my CR has already become a trusted friend who helps me look and feel fantastic. Especially if you live where you can leave the top off all summer, everybody go to your Honda dealer and tell as many lies on the credit app as you have to!
