I feel sick right now, most likely totaled my 4 month old LBP today.

Turned onto an aggregate road (pebbles cemented in) and was accelerating and completely lost traction. Slid it right into a ditch and into a tree. It was raining and the surface felt like ice, I couldn't believe how slick the surface was. Luckily I walked away with nothing but a bruise, but I feel like a complete idiot. I must have snapped an axel or something because the right front wheel was bent in and the fender was destroyed. It really didn't look too bad until I saw that wheel. I'm pretty sure it'll be totaled.

really sorry man. I had a scare a few months back just going down a straight road that the sprinklers happened to be running late at night and spun out right as I was shifting to third. Luckily nobody was on the road and I just hit the curb so no body damage, but completely bent in my rear wheel. Turned out to be $8k to rebuild the suspension/axel/wheel assembly, so not totaled, but definitely made me think twice about ever giving any power when the roads are wet. It was raining here last week and even just the slightest acceleration caused the back end to come out. I'm surprised too at how slick the surfaces feel when they're wet, it's almost as bad as ice.

Anyways, the main thing is you're unharmed. Cars can be replaced easier than people. I would say you might not be totaled if it was just the wheel that got bent in. Control arm, suspension, and axel won't total it, but depending on the extent of the front fender damage and if there was any engine damage as well since I'm assuming you hit the tree head on, that might total it.

Yeah, one of the issues for me was tires, the dealer I bought it from put cheap ones on, so they were practically new with lots of tread, but very cheap rubber. I had noticed before that the rear tires seem to have a lot of grip, at least up until they don't anymore. Very black and white as far as grip is concerned, lots of it and then nothing at all. I was able to control the car enough to keep it from spinning, but just couldn't get any traction.

Looking over the car the front bumper is completely gone, the right fender is done, the radiator and whatever metal is around it is done and the hood is mostly likely done. Couldn't really see the frame. I'm sure I did a good bit of damage underneath as well since before I hit the tree I ran over a downed tree, scrapped a healthy amount of bark off it.

I'll post pictures when all is said and done, but want to keep them off the web for the time being.

damn, almost looks like it was trying to hide in the forest there. Didn't realize how nice laguna blue looked. good luck fighting with insurance, I know laguna is a rare color but insurance probably doesn't care.

Nope, they don't even care about giving me a decent value for it. The car had some decent mileage but was in absolutely perfect condition.

It probably could have been, but I wasn't going very fast. I basically hydroplanned under acceleration so I didn't even have a chance to get up to speed and I didn't have much traction so I couldn't put any power down to speed up after I lost control. I was doing about 35 when I lost traction and by the time I impacted the tree I was probably doing 15 at most. If you look I ran over a downed tree so that slowed me down a lot before I actually hit the tree.

I'm just depressed now because I had the perfect car and I went did that to it, luckily even with their low ball offer I'm not upside down on the loan and I do have some cash for a down payment on another.
