GoPro is the new Apple.
I honestly feel trolled by them, simply because they released the app FINALLY last week. That app, if you have a smartphone and/or tablet device, renders the remote useless. The remote was the only reason I bought the Hero2 (along with the easy navigation of the menu), and now, I'm trolled again because the new camera has not only a faster processor but also MUCH better resolution (as if that was an issue with GoPro products). I'll actually more than likely sit this one out
at least until they fix all the issues that will inevitably arise. Also, the micro SD card move was some bullshit, because now, a complementary good (mirco SD) will go up in price to accommodate GoPro cameras 
Finally, if you're not filming in IMAX, you don't need 4k speeds. When I review footage from my Hero1, it is almost spot on with footage from my Hero2 Given that you cannot render videos on youtube or vimeo in such a high quality, it seems like overkill to me to have a 4k speed setting

We can always argue about why Apple is better than PC, but that's not what this thread is for So honesty pull- is anyone pulling the trigger on the Hero3 anytime soon? Here's what one of our Admins, Mocky, said:

*I don't need a wireless remote. My iphone5 has the app and I can use that to control it. But, if you want the best quality camera (black edition), you have to buy the whole bundle (and cough out nearly $400). I don't need the remote.... and there is no black edition bundle without it.
*MicroSD ..
I guess I am going to end up sitting on a 32GB SD card that I won't use since my digital camera uses CF and I already have extra SD cards..
SO....with those thoughts in mind, I'm not sure what I'll do... probably end up getting the black and buy the dumb adapter so I can use the external mic and figure out how to run a case with the external mic and buy the suction cup and try to sell the stupid remote.... either that or the remote will sit next to my Alpine head unit remote.. in the box it came in..

I also wouldn't be surprised to see a motorsports edition up any day now, notice they added a black edition surf edition.

I think this is the skeleton case's replacement and I believe it's going to be a far better case than anything the Hero2 offered. Take a look at the lens, no big fat piece of plastic covering it. Yes, you lose protection, but I guarantee the quality you gain will overshadow it. For the best results you want as little between the sensor and the subject as possible.

That "frame" is another solid reason to not get the Hero3 IMO... You lose any and ALL protection to the lense, when they claim a "protective lense feature" it doesn't say anything to me except "hello rock chips" (I use my GoPro primarily for motorsport stuff). The frame itself also doesn't look extremely rigid, but that's just my subjective opinion.

Actually, the Surf Edition was available as a second Black Edition option the night the announcement hit. Historically, they have always had the Motorsports Edition at the time of initial release so that's where my skepticism comes. As an owner of the original GoPro, and then the Hero 2, I was a bit miffed on why they didn't release the Motorsports edition... having said that, really, the biggest addition to the regular Black Edition would be the suction cup mount and since you can use the existing one, I just need to find one and I'll be ok with that.
As far as protection goes.. you are right.. that frame will leave the lens exposed and I have a serious problem with that...I track the car... the car gets hit by crap from the car in front of me all the time... a naked GoPro is going to get beat up..I don't care what they say..... So I was very skeptical about this..
So... I did ask around a bit and one of the guys I know already has the 3. He bought the LCD package as well.. and that does come with a more traditional (and acceptable) skeleton case.
