Now that the WiFi & GoPro are sharing the same battery, how long does the battery last?

Just picked up a black edition yesterday, there is a ton more to play around with compared to the Hero2, but it does look like the quality is a lot better.

Haven't used it that extensively yet. Did see some grumblings in the initial reviews of the GP3 though referring to wi-fi and battery life. I got a bacpac now so less of a concern for me.

Just wanted to check in here with the crew.

Was the lucky recipient of a Costco bundled HERO2 for Christmas, basically it was the outdoor edition along with the wifi bacpac. Had a chance to use it skiing with the chesty mount, which made for some pretty cool videos. Battery life was terrible in the cold.

For the S I picked up the modifry low profile mount, a GoPro tripod mount, and a skeleton case for USB power. Huge thanks to adrs2k for consultation on the settings for track & canyon runs, as well as tips on sound isolation. Will probably seek out an external mic solution next.

Looking into external mics. Suggestions or ones to stay away from?

I'm interested in this as well, I think it's really the only way to go if you want any kind of decent sound.

Went out this morning with it and I think a battery backpack is a must, I may just try to run a cable from the cigarette lighter so that it's always charged, doesn't take much to completely drain the battery.

I have used an external sound recording device with good results. I like to have control over my audio. The problem is that this requires post production work.

For a $400 camera the audio on the go pro does a good job. What sound are you looking to record? There is not one solution. I have a bunch of microphones for different things. This video is just using audio from the camera:

If you guys are interested in doing some post production work.. try shooting with pro tune and the raw white balance setting. Your videos will look great

I'm really looking to do exterior mounted shots and get good engine noise along with it. I think I can manage the post production work, from what I can tell its pretty easy once you sync up the audio.

The protune is a massive improvement, getting some really good results from what I'm seeing.
