Default oil

Hi All
Guest with a problem. I recently changed from dino to mobil 1, after about 3000 miles one of my friends behind me noticed smoke coming out of my exhaust. The guy I bought the car from told me that he ran valvoline 10w30, he said that he preferred dino to synthetic. Has any one else noticed smoking after changing to mobil I?
Thanks
Leahysailor

I've been told that owners of rotary engines do not use synthetic oil because the engine is designed to burn oil, and synthetic will leave deposits in the combustion chamber that hinder performance. Same with the S2000 I imagine.. I was told that this is the only Honda engine that burns a little oil...?

our engine will burn a little oil during hard drives and if you are in vtec a lot, or running the car up to vtec....

All engines burn oil, some more than others. the S2k burns oil because of the high RPM's Mine will use a little after a hard run, and 9k shifts.

I don't know what it is, but I doubt it's the Mobil 1. My '02 S2000 has 70k miles on it and has used Mobil 1 Synthetic for the last 40k miles without problems.

Thanks guys, but I think that 2 quarts in 3000 miles might be a little to much consumption. I kick in the vtec about 4 or 5 times a week. My car has 39000 miles on it, and the guy I bought from is a mechanic for World Toyota in Gwinnet, he told me he had very little oil use while he owned the car. I guess I might try going back to dino and see if the oil consumption goes down. When I bought the car it had dino in it and i didn't have to add a drop of oil to it in 3000 miles.

When I first went to syn oil it used a used some at first, .5 qt? and then went back to normal. just give it some time. your car my take a bit longer. but that 2 qts in 3k is the highest I have heard of.

Thanks Oakfloor, I'm due for an oil change in couple of hundred miles so I'll stick with Mobil 1 for at least another change.
I've had my car about six months and it probably is the most fun sports car that I've owned!

Dont worry too much, If your s2k doesn't like syn oil, there are some good din oils available. check out the "oil journals" and yeah the s2k is a great roadster. its just right. mazda's are too small, vettes are too big, porsches are too $$. drive safe.

My car has had Mobil 1 for the last 9000 miles. The last three changes were all Mobil one. So far I have put four cases of oil in the car (including the replacement oil).

That's 3 changes at 5.2 qts each,
The 1.6 quarts of leftover that were used to "top off" oil when checking it,
and 5 out of 6 quarts of a spare case I bought just for the purpose of adding oil.

So I used 6.6 quarts of oil over the last 9,000 miles, and I'm opening the last remaining quart today - and I still have 1500+ miles to go to the next oil change.
