Which oil is best for 2001 Ap1?
run 5-40 cause ap1 life
All brand name synthetics are good oils. Some are better than others in certain respects.
Then, there are some higher-end oils, in the $8-10 quart range that are clearly better, but most would consider overkill.
One of the reasons these oils are better is the additive package. Most people don't know this but all API certified brand name oils, in certain respects, are poorer oils than a few years back. The government, with it's ever increasing restrictive pollution requirements in combination with manufactures efforts to increase fuel economy, have resulted in removing a few additives to oils, perhaps the most important being Zinc, or ZDDP, because they are contraindicated.
However, for older cars like ours, the zinc and other additives are a good thing. But you won't get them in buying any API certified oils.
Certain manufactures do sell oil that still contains these excellent additives, but as a result are not API certified.
My choice is Joe Gibb's Driven oil. I use the LS30. I personally don't think you really can get a better oil.
Driven Racing Oil™ - Performance Oils, Lubricants, & Cleaners
Take the time to read through their site. It's very educational. Also, be aware that the head guy is Lake Speed, Jr. Lake is probably one of the top knowledgeable guys in the area of lubrication. He has degrees and certifications gator, and usually is the one who answers all the tech questions.

Don't overthink it. Just use what you've been using and you'll be fine. Changing the oil on time with a good filter is far more important than the brand of oil.
With that being said, I use whatever is sale so that could be Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil 1.
10W30 is recommended.
There is a plethora of threads debating which weight and brand is best.
There is nothing wrong with running the recommended 10W30 and i'd say the majority of reliably running S2k's with most being over 10 years old now are running 10W30 - so why deviate without a very compelling reason??
I'd say just choose a 10W30 full synthetic and brand you trust and change the oil at LEAST every 5k miles and you will have more than enough engine protection.
I will probably just stick with Mobile 1 full synthetic which I also use in my other vehicles. There are often deals on Mobile 1, it's easy to get and I've had no issues.
I'll be changing the oil every 3k which will probably be once a year before it goes into storage.
