Default Oil consumption?

Hey all, my ap1 is using oil. I did a dry compression test all cylinders over 210+ 2003 ap1. Anything else I should do?

German Castrol 0w30 reduced my oil consumption to all most nothing, I Vtec all day long and it maybe eats .5 of a quart in 7,000 miles.

I use 10-30 castrol. eats like 3 quarts between oil changes. Its just regular. Mobile 1 will dissapear a lot faster though. I'm always checking my oil level before v teching. I kind of like it in a way as the engine will see new oil between changes. This is another reason I go 5k between them.

3 quarts in 5k miles is acceptable. You might reduce it by moving to Casrol Edge (if you want to stick with Castrol brand), an ap2 (04-05) valvecover and pcv can help too. How old is your pcv valve ?.

used to burn alot of oil before maybe 2 quarts every 3k with my03 ap1 after installing ap2 vavle cover and catch can my oil consumption went down to less than a quart every 3k and i also use 5w40 Shell T6 rotella. i notice with this oil before you do any vtec or hard driving you must have you car fully warmed up not just by temp gauge but driving around for at-least 10min to lessen the chance of burning oil during vtec. could be wrong just from my observation

Sounds like a little bit of voodoo in this thread.

So whats the deal with the ap2 valve cover helping reduce oil usage?

I picked up my 01' back in december with about 30k on the clock. I'm not sure what the previous owner was running for oil, but I was eating through it on the way from nyc back to minnesota at a pretty good rate.

German castrol is hard to come by so I went with amsoil 0w30 and replaced the nasty fram filter with with a napa gold/wix. Haven't ate a drop since!
