I have run Quaker State in every car I have ever owned (last thirty years) and changed the oil every three thousand miles. Never had any sludge buildup of any kind.

Just a question about the oil filter element. According to a reference source which I regard as only marginally reliable [a booklet posted in the automotive section at a local Wal-Mart], the replacement oil filter element for the S2000 is identical to the one for recent model Honda Accord 4 cylinder engines. Is this true? If so, the oil filter is very easily obtainable just about anywhere.

I didn't know that Castrol made a full syn. in this weight but if they do, then YEAH, do it. I've always liked Castrol for dino oil.

I changed the oil in my 2002 Sebring Silver at around 6,000 miles. (I had to add 2 quarts of oil during that time period) I didn't wait until 7,500 miles because I did VTEC the sucker occasionally...

Anyway, right now, it's at nearly 8,000 miles. So far, I haven't had any oil loss. Gas mileage has gotten better... (I've tried to do better than 26 mpg, but it's just too tempting not to pedal to the metal occasionally in this car)

I plan to change my oil at 10,000 miles and then every 5,000 miles there after just because it'll be easier for me to remember when it's time to change... My 11 yr old Civic got the same treatment and is still going strong after 220k miles.

Lastly, I really don't think it's wise to persuade folks to do something against the owner's manual. With that said, I'd also agree that it's most unlikely to do too much damage your engine by changing the oil too frequently, break-in oil or not. Still, when Honda specifically tells you to NOT switch to synthetics too soon, why would you want to go against that?

Unless if you personally designed the engine for Honda and Honda is ignoring your recommendations..., I'd just stick with regular 10W-30 until after 10k miles.

Owner's manual really should be treated as bible. Honda is the God who created the vehicle. There might be occasional mistakes, but if God made a mistakes, he should be able to take care of you by fixing it later on... I'm willing to bet those who do not follow owners manuals are atheists. Am I right?

an interesting analogy to say the least. Still stand firmly behind what the manual says. Mike
