just add 5 quarts, and you're fine. run the car a minute, then check the dipstick.

That's what I do. When I got the car, it had more oil than I like in there. I don't like the oil touching the high mark.

You probably shouldn't be doing your own oil changes if you're asking this kind of question. However, it means if you change your filter when you change the oil, then it will take 5.2 qts to refill your oil system.

In the old days some people would change their oil without changing the filter. Filters in general hold about a quart of oil (the small filters on S2000's probably less) so if you changed your oil without changing the filter you would only have to add 4.2 vs. 5.2 qts with a filter change.

A lot MY 00-03 S2000 owners are finding it takes 5.6 qts to refill an S2000 following an oil change that includes a new OEM oil filter. Apparently there was a typo in the owner's manual that showed 5.1 qts vs. 5.6 qts as the oil change w/filter capacity.

It's always a good idea make your final adjustment on oil level after running the engine for a few minutes following the oil change. All this and more can be found in the FAQs. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=108435

Yeah, 5.2 if you put on a new filter. I put 5.2 in and it comes out perfect every time.

overfill is bad because rotating parts will cause foam in the oil. oil foam will not cool or lubericate as well.

no no, hold on a second here.

there is no EXACT amount for what you're going to need to put in.

some people put 5 quarts in when they change their oil, and some put in almost 6. both get to the "full mark" when they do it, so that means they are BOTH correct.

honestly, stop worry about the .6 this or .2 that. change your oil. put in 5 quarts. run the engine for a minute. then check the level. if it's between the halfway point and full, you're fine.

FYI, the halfway point means you are about 1 quart shy of the full mark. however, DO NOT OVERFILL!
