I broke my car in properly. At 7600 miles, I used no oil since my change at 6970, despite hard driving. Still conventional oil.

It used to be a half quart every 1000 miles when new, it slowly tapered to nothing.

As for oil consumption, so what? It's not a defect unless your car is smoking, leaking oil, or getting oil into the coolant.

If you need peace of mind, have the compression checked. If everything checks out OK, just keep track of your consumption and make sure things are not getting worse.

you should probably forward this rant to Porsche too - since they are obviously modeling their engines on a 77 Ford F150 too...I mean my friends 996TT uses a quart every 1K miles - and Mobil1 is so expensive he might need to sell the car...And I know a guy with a 993 - I don't know how he puts up with having to add oil at every fill-up...driving a C2S just isn't worth it...Come to think of it - I have a lawn mower that eats oil every season. Piece of crap. Now I'm all fired up.

Thank God for this web site. I could've damn well blown an engine for not knowing that these cars drink dead dino juice like I guzzle beer at 5:01pm on a Friday. I've already added 2 qts of Castrol after 3100 miles (my 1st month of ownership!). I guess my new puppy's just thristy, is all!

I don't want to hijack the thread either, but I respect you a lot and have really appreciated much of the work you've done on this board. I'd also be curious to know why you're ticked at Honda. Would you mind pm'ing me as well?

Personally, I would take no oil consumption over 1qt to 2qt between change intervals.

I am on pace for 1qt topping off for this interval. For the break in period from 20kms to 5000kms, I used 2 litres almost. Pretty crazy but it seems to be slowly decreasing. If it is still drinking oil after 30 000kms or so, I might reconsider but for now just top off and see. I am more worried about #4 cycl. scuffing than oil consumption. If you are really anal, get an oil analysis when you change your oil. This will show wear patterns that will tell you if your engine will go byebye anytime soon.

I am actually not happy with Honda that it didn't do a recall for the oil bolts, that is a larger issue than oil consumption I think. Lack of lubrication is far worse if you ask me.
