After reading the Nitrogen thread, I got to thinkin'

Lets say someone actually wanted to put nitrogen in their tires, how exactly do you get *all* or near-all the air and problematic water vapor out?

Remove the Schrader Valve completely. Replace valve and put the good stuff back in. Oh...the Schrader is the little one way dohickey that keeps the air in the tire.

that isn't going to remove all the air... that will just equalize the pressure w/ the ouside.

There are machines (http://www.nitronics.com/tirelast.htm) that purge and refill the tires.. I don't how you manage it if you just have a tank.

you have to have a special valve "thingy" that allows you to attach a vacuum pump and a fill tank, without air from the tank going to the vacuum side.

IF you're not a complete fanatic you could pressurize and bleed a couple of times. That would leave a very low percentage of anything but nitrogen. Nitrogen is not expensive once you own the tank.

remove schrader valve , hook up refrigeration manifold , hook up vacuum pump to one port and nitrogen to another . run vacuum pump to remove air . break vacuum with 15 lbs of nitrogen . remove hose from tire quickly install schrader before all nitrogen pressure is out of tire . purge nitrogen hose ( attach hose to tire while letting nitrogen run at low pressure through hose ) fill tire to pressure you want.

this is how you fill air conditioner .
