One Helluva Night!...(not a repost).
Wow . . . sounds like you held your composure very well. I would have been reduced to a screaming lunatic at the very least
(right after I got his license #
). It's one thing for an irresponsible putz to ding your (unattended) car in a parking lot and leave the scene but for someone to simply drive off while your're standing there?
I hope they can add "leaving the scene" to the charges when they prosecute this moron. Also hope he tries to represent himself in court.
BTW: I also "scan" my life away.

Thanks for the support guys. I had to keep my composure..I would have given him the upper hand, had I not.

Hmm, if you were in a parking lot(i.e. provate property) the police have no business in that case, well here in Texas anyway. Unless someone was hurt or something was done maliciously, it is a civil matter.. Those guys should have just kept driving away.
As for weenies out there who think every person in the world that door dings your car should be responsible, please get a life and keep your sorry ashed cars out of the parking lots. That stuff happens, and while there are a lot of wankers out there who are disrespectful and jack with cars without regard often, a lot of people will bump a door here and there - it happens. I try my best but sometimes there isn't enough room. If you don't want door dings don't park your car..

jnmunsey,
Here in Maryland, where it happened, the police get involved, no-matter-where the incident happens. Those guys did drive away. That is considered fleeing the scene...The Cop explained all of this to me lastnight. That is illegal. Plain and simple. They were running for a reason, guilt. If they were not at fault, they should have stayed, exchanged information, and left.
I contacted the police mainly because of the posture they were taking towards me and the incident...and the character flaws that they were demonstrating...i.e. - saying that they were going to lie and make up their own story since they had 4 to my 1. Not good people.
Regarding the dinging of a car on accident: Fine and dandy if it happens; only if the person that does it has enough intestinal fortitude to contact that person or leave their information. I have had to do this before. It is the Honest and Right thing to do.
Regarding Parking: I bought the car to use however I please. If I need it to go to the store or to the hospital...I am going to use it. I wouldn't have bought a car unless I planned on using it somehow/someway. I don't feel like walking to work everyday...it would be over 60 miles! I will risk parking my car as far away from the masses everytime I go somewhere. But there are times when you don't have a football field sized parking lot to place your vehicle. That is where Integrity,Honesty,Respect, and Personal Courage come in handy. Those who do not have these quality traits will go on dinging and disrespecting until they wake up or die

Well if you are in Texas you'll get shot - time to put the weenie on the grill..
Door dings and so forth happen. Anyone who thinks they don't or shouldn't is insane or lives in the arctic circle. I always try to avoid making contact wth another car, but sometimes it happens, and almost always it is with very little force, but some cars are so freakin sensitive the paint scratches from the wind, and the owner of that car expects someone else to pay for it - bullsheet. You want an accident and debris free driving environment then build a 5 square mile clean room..
People who ding up other cars in parking lots because they don't give a crud are another story, but even the police have no business in those matters imo, but I guess that is northeast US law enformement for ya..

Well, John, I am glad that this is your opinion. Because if the law enforcement didn't do what they have to do, we here in the D.C. Metro area would be screwed. I don't know if you know this or not, but if you get caught in D.C. with a gun, rifle or illegal knife...you are going to jail, and you will be fined. So, I leave my .45 Glock at home in its' safe.
You too may be a gun totin' person, but why not have the Law Enforcement help, if they can?
Because, with my real-world experiance, you never know what someone may have either in their rpocket or in that Pepsi Can that they are holding as they approach you. I hope that makes you think a little about where I am coming from.
I don't need someone to hold my hand. But, as do the civilians of the U.S.A., I like to call on the women and men in uniform to help me, when I feel the need to be valid.
To be honest with you, I guess I am glad that I do not reside where you are. If the law enforcement is as dysfunctional as you report it to be, I will be more than happy to live in D.C.
I lived in Texas for a few years; San Antonio & El Paso. I never had a problem with the law not responding or acting like the good ol' boys. I know it happens; but when it comes to bigger problems, like street scum, pushers, rapesst, and all-out punk-ass people...I love how D.C. has helped to clear out these types of people to make it a little more safe each day for locals and tourist to enjoy. Afterall, this is the Nations Capitol!
Once again, Just my $0.02
