depends. anything that has anything to do with safety, i'm going with the legitimate supplier. my old Jetta had $1000 wheels on it... the S deserves better.

with that said, for cosmetic mods, anything goes. i've seen plenty of AP1 ebay lips in person and they look great. and at 1/4 the cost of oem, that one's a no brainer.

I dont have any issues w/ fake parts. I just dont like the sugar coated word "replica". Call it what it is.. FAKE!
Well that just is not true, you see they are real you hold them, you bolt them on, they work. Therefore they are 100% real just not 100% Genuine

Wow! That's pretty shallow. But hey of your buying the real deal why don't you spread the around and send your fellow S2KI owners some parts.

I'll start a genuine hardtop please.

I have bought one replica part in my life, test fit it, then threw it in the corner of my garage and it still sits there. I won't buy replica ever again.

I personally think it's better to save your money for a couple extra months and buy authentic.

Oh calm down - Im just trolling.

The reason this argument even exists is because one the biggest reasons anyone buys this stuff isn't to actually improve the performance of the car (see hellaflush thread where people order $3K++ wheels in the WRONG sizes and offsets to hardpark) but rather for the exclusivity (see conversion van Mugen M7 sackriders) and 'uniqueness'.

My 18" Work wheels didn't make my car any faster (arguably better traction thanks to bigger tires, but thats another argument). It made it blingier. Also, I didn't add the CR lip because I needed the downforce (although it is functional) - I bought it because I got a good deal and I was one of the first to do it aftermarket (Jan 08?).

The only thing I am judgmental on is wheels and tires or just cheesy replica parts. I HATE fake/knock off/cheapo wheels. That doesn't mean if you pay $9000 for a set of Mugen somethings Im going to drool over them - particularly if they're ugly - or that if you pay $30 for a set of used Volks Im going to scoff...

When I bought my 240Z it had Konig rewinds (RS Watanabe fakes) - I HATE it. That will soon be fixed with real deal Wats or Equip 01s.

I do LOL @ people that use "Federal" all seasons on Work Meisters or TE37s OR the Mugen SS replica bumper that looks like I made it in my garage - quit being cheap and put some decent shit on your car - if you can't afford it, go back to OEM with decent tires.

To me it largely depends on the part, some I'm okay with and others I'll never do.

For cosmetic parts, I could probably never get myself to buy a fake product. I would love to have a replica Amuse bumper that I wouldn't have to worry about if it gets scraped on the bottom, but I don't like the fact that people will see my car as something that it really isn't, almost like people who try to make normal 911's look like Turbos.

In terms of functional parts, however, if the replica is as good as the JDM product I will likely be willing to get it. For instance, the original Mugen intake is an awesome product but it really is overpriced considering that its design probably didn't take a rocket scientist to come up with. You are really paying for the Mugen name and the super-high quality carbon there, neither of which am I interested in for a part that I only want to lower my intake air temps and help the engine perform better. In that case, I'll gladly buy the replica version because it meets my needs and nobody is looking under my hood so it's not like I'm "showing off" a part that isn't real.
