Original vs Replica

depends. anything that has anything to do with safety, i'm going with the legitimate supplier. my old Jetta had $1000 wheels on it... the S deserves better.
with that said, for cosmetic mods, anything goes. i've seen plenty of AP1 ebay lips in person and they look great. and at 1/4 the cost of oem, that one's a no brainer.

If you want to spend 10k on parts on your car to take it to a show and win a little trophy and a stroke job.... by all means get original. When you track your car and need the strongest parts needed go for original for safety. If you don't give sh*%'s and just like the look and want to use your cash for other things then get the copy.
My Golden Rule
Dont go cheap or Relpica on Suspension, Rims, Tires, Brakes , Engine Pieces basically anything that has moving parts or has anything to do with safety.
I think Replica Aero is ok as long as you dont pass it off as Real then its ok to Fake the Funk.

Going replica on rims, suspension, engine parts or anything that affects functionality
Bad decision Have seen many cracked Vorks and Spugens after hitting a Jersey pothole that amazed me on how the car didn't get totalled and a few that did.
$4,000-$10,000- Wheels on Federales
do it right or don't do it at all.
Do have the "replica" mugen splitter though and the day a huge branch decided to land in front of my S at 70mph -it took the full brunt of the impact with no damage to it or my bumper
That would've shattered the authentic.

i have boughten both replicas and fakes in my life on different hondas, and honestly i dont feel a certain way towards either. I have boughten real parts that fit like crap and fake ones that were great and vice versa. I have Megan tracks on my s2000 that seem equal to if not better than the tein flex i had on my prelude. Are the megans replicas of apexi coilovers? Yes, and i dont have a problem with it. To me, I completely understand the cost of the apexi is higher due to their R&D, but as a consumer if i can get the same product for a lesser price, why not? Most will argue that it "ruins the scene" and I can see the points, and they are valid. But to me, If I can save a few bucks thats fine to me, because there are plenty of people who buy real ones. To the people who say you get what you pay for, I agree that to an extent, but my friend ronnie has megan tracks that have been on 4 s2000s with over 100k total combined miles and still kicking ass to this day, and for 800, can you reallly complain?
I am hearing a general consensus that most people are happy to buy replica aero, but are much less likely to buy a replica item that's functional, or integral to the way the car works (say, cheap coil-overs). I am hearing you, but I can't bring myself to agreeing with you just yet. I am leaning towards doing an AP1 to AP2 conversion using genuine OEM parts, as opposed to paying for genuine ASM or Amuse parts (I wish I could afford to pay $3000+ for a complete ASM kit, but, I can't justify it right now)
I also saw someone mention how people buy genuine Rays wheels, but because they have almost maxed out their budget, the tires are an afterthought. I never understood it. It's like buying an Armani suite, and buying a pair of Walmart sneakers to go with it. And more importantly, the tyre is the only thing creating a point of contact between you and the road. I remember keeping my stock Evo wheels (BBS, which are awesome regardless) and spending my money on extremely good tires, as opposed to dropping my cash on rims, only to be stuck with a budget of $200 for tires. No thanks.
It's interesting to read what people think though, and in some way, it does make me feel better, in that, I am not the only one that struggles with this internal battle of passion vs brain vs wallet.

Everyone wants to brand themselves as successful, honest, and a better member of society compared to the next guy.
I am not for or against replicas...
Does everyone want the real deal? Of course we do, we are all suckers for marketing gimmicks and the status each of those original parts represent.
Replicas serve a purpose for the vast majority of people who are not full fledged car enthusiasts. They get the closest thing to the real deal and don't break the bank. Do they care the wheel could snap and become a potential safety hazard? They probably won't even take the car to that limit as it is.
Ignorance in bliss, and this goes both ways.

I think its funny how all the members who buy "authentic" get so butthurt once they see a replica of what they got though. Those are good for some serious lulz
