Are our Seattle / Earthquake area members okay?
well, I work in Renton (near Des Moines, for Sondra's sake!) and live in Kirkland. Ron works in Bellevue, closer to home, in a one story building.
My 4 story building is a mess and off limits. File cabinets are all knocked over, nothing remains on anyone's desk, a monitor fell off one desk and landed on a co-worker's knee, luckily she's okay, but will likely have a HUGE bruise! Rumor is that at least one wall crumbled, and I could see huge cracks in the stairwell as everyone evacuated. Light fixtures were hanging down, ceiling tiles all askew.
All I could think about (after knowing Ron was ok, of course!) was whether Marcus (our S2K) was okay!
You see, we had him all tucked away in the garage, even though it was a nice day, since we hadn't taken the race tires off him yet. But we've got shelves right above his hood... lots of stuff on the shelves... see my panic?
So a few hours later I finally made it home to check on him.
Huge sigh of relief, not a scratch on him... I even took the afternoon "off" to get his spoiler installed... not only is he unscratched, now he's purtier than ever!
Glad to hear all the other seattle-ites are okay!

Wow Annie! You're a nice girl and all that but I'm sure glad I wasn't spending the day with you.
I'm even more glad that you weren't hurt. Sounds like you had a rough day.

Didn't feel anything here in the bay area, though apparently it registered here and some (I've heard) say they felt it. But we got our own little jiggle treat on Sunday with a light 4.4.
People back home in the Spokane area said their blinds moved slightly and the lights in the Spokane Arena swayed about a little bit. That's over 300 miles away!! My family and friends I've talked to so far said they didn't even feel it. One of those things where if you're really still and not busy you may feel it, but if moving, nothing registers. Interesting that they're actually checking bridges in Spokane for damage. I certainly don't think it was bad enough over there to warrant a full check. A semi across the bridge probably puts more stress on it than what was felt there.
6.8 today, but the biggest recorded in the Seattle was 7.1 in 1949 if I'm not mistaken, and there was a 6.5 in 1963 or 65 or something. Nice thing is that they're usually really deep, so that helps prevent damage and aftershocks that you would normally see in a similar magnitude quake in California.
Funny, you hear of Seattle having earthquakes, but I never took it seriously. You just don't think Seattle as an earthquake city. Knew they had little ones, but I guess now people will take the threat a bit more seriously. That's good.
Hope all are okay!

I'm glad this gave you a chance to update your Seattle quote, ken.

Hi Scott, Glad you made it home and all is well there. I had a small mirror fall off a shelf, but it didn't break. VHS tapes and DVDs tipped over and a bottle of Ketchup that was balancing on its' lid to get the last little bit out fell off the counter.
Other than that, I wasn't home at the time of the quake to see one of my roommates run out of the shower without a robe on.
She said the house was shaking pretty good here in east Renton.

I'm really glad to hear that all you Seattle folks are well
. I've never been to Seattle. I don't like heights so I would really really freak out probably if I was up in the space needle......that would suck
