Over-Rev vs. Rev Limiter
So let's say while going for a pass you have brain fade for a second and bounce off the Rev-Limiter for a second while going from 2nd gear to 3rd. Is this considered an Over-Rev, if not, what exactly is an Over-Rev?
Coming from a motorcycle background hitting the rev-limiter on a bike on occasion is no big deal but have never really heard about over-revs until now.
Enlighten me please.

Correct me if I'm wrong..
If you are going through the gears, upshifting like normal, and you take it past 9,000 rpm's then yes the rev limiter will kick in cutting the fuel and preventing you from OVERREVING. However, if you are going through the gears aggressively and you mistakenly shift from 3rd to 2nd instead of 3rd to 4th then you will experience OVERREVING. Your rev limiter/fuel cutoff will still kick in but the physics involved will not stop your engine from reving past the point of no return.

rev limiter prevents over rev normally-
except as iamjosh indicates, where you mess up and miss shift.
you can blow the engine with an over rev but thats what the rev limiter protects against in a normal rev
