owning an s2000 with kids?
It's funny I found this thread... I just found out that my wife was pregnant 2 weeks ago. I've had my S since back in February though. Things are tight, but mostly because of rent/car payments.
We have a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder together, she has an infiniti G35 coupe, and I now have the S2k after selling my Civic. Personally I think despite we have 3 car payments (The SUV is done fairly soon) but money will still be tight.. I'll be using the SUV and put the S on the backburner as a weekend warrior... Which works for me just fine because I dislike dailying the car as I want it more for my "hobby" use so I can keep it semi preserved and in good shape overall.
I'm not sure how well we will do with the kid in a G35 coupe when we aren't using the Pathfinder but I'm guessing its doable. I just look forward to the day where my child will be born and 80lbs so I can take them for they're first ride in the S2k top down haha.

are a gift from heaven ...best of luck to you and your growing family
I got my S when my wife was 4 months pregnant. The way I saw it, we have a Toyota Matrix as our family car. Sure at times the car will be inconvenient because it only seats two, but most of the time it will just be me driving myself to work. Once I am home we take the other car. I have an ’07 which has the sensor for the airbag, so occasionally I do take my daughter with the car seat in the S. They are usually short trips and I drive very conservatively. Now that our second baby is on the way in the near future we will probably get a minivan and since both cars are paid for I will be able to drive the Matrix more especially on inclement weather days. I have not regretted at all getting the S, driving it daily has been a pleasure. Funny part was that when I was looking for my S there was a low mileage S2000 on the dealer lot, I asked why such a low mileage car was traded in and the dealer said it was because the person was about to have a kid, I told him well my wife is pregnant and I want an S2000.
I dont have any kids but, everytime i ride in my buddies STi all i can do is comment on how trashed and stained his rear seats are. Kids are messy. Buy a beater with vinyl/leather to help with the spills. My .02.
Initially I really wanted an Sti. Really because it was a fast 4 door and I have always had a thing for them. Unforunately I couldn't justify the price tag and decided to keep it Honda.
thx I needed that ....btw three car payments and rent , u may wanna think about saving some before u send it all , u know with a child things get expensive quick ...best of luck with your new addition .Best thing in life is being a parent , trust me I know first hand

Thanks! Fortunately I have been saving for quite some time so I'm going to pay my wife off on my half of the Pathinder and only have my S2k to worry about. Her car she pays on her own so I'm also good there..
What scares me more than anything is the cost of childcare.

understand where you are coming from as I've got my 5 mth old son to ferry around.
That said, the S is rock solid reliable but i think its more practical to separate the modified sports car from the daily family car as you don't really want to handle breakdowns when you are ferrying the kid to and fro from regular outings.
Hope this helps.

I figure for the price of a used sti 16-20 grand, I can just pick up a s2k for under 15k and then buy a beater 4 door ek civic/accord for a few grand and come out on top for the same amount of money.
appreciate everyones posts,very helpfull info

I'd say buying an S with 10 or so years on it is ideal, as much as not everyone wants to do that you can still find them in great shape and they're considerably cheaper than the alternative. Babies and children in general cost a lot of money and you don't want to have a car payment for a luxury. Having a sports car like this is absolutely a luxury, especially cause you can't ride with a baby or child in it.
My plan is to have an S when I have kids but it will be paid off and under storage insurance
Good luck!

I bought my S recently and I have a 1.5 year old and 4 year old in the house. I have always wanted a motorcycle, and my wife was supportive of it. Once my kids came along I didn't think the motorcylcle was the greatest idea anymore. I think of my S2000 as a "4 wheel motorcycle". Can I take the kids for a ride in the S, of course not, but I wouldn't be be giving them rides on the back of a GSXR either. I bought a nice AP1 to keep the price down and make it closer to what a motorcycle would cost. My S is a pleasure vehichle, just like a bike would be.
The only thing I question from time to time is that I should have driven an RX-8 also. Similar price, power, and handling with nice looks too. The reason for that is those tiny rears seats. I would like to know that if I were at work, and my wifes had car problems, should could put the kids in the back of the RX-8 if need be until the issues where her car were addressed.
