Pinky,

My back and forth with the engineer was to get the documentation in an understandable form for everyone out there in S2000 land...I knew what the solution was, but asked that they explain it better in the documentation.

Your comment does make me curious, though...what did you have to perfect? Or do you mean you spent a month finding the solution, not perfecting one?

Not sure that I understand the question, but I'll try to answer what I THINK you were asking.

The signal from the mute button is already at the stereo connector, so the relay only needs to be next to the stereo, no long wires necessary. I haven't taken a close look at your current setup, but are you running extra wires from the dash controls to the stereo? If so, they're unneccesary...

As a side note, I saw one of your relay wiring setups. The relay you use (at least for this one) is WAY oversized, so you could save a few bucks by putting in a much smaller one. I think the one I saw was rated at 25A-30A, and this application only pulls a few hundred milliamps, if that. A simple one from Radio Shack would work, or bulk buy 10 at a time for bigger savings from Mouser, Digi-Key, what have you. They shouldn't cost you more than $1.50-$2.00/each in groups of 10. Every dollar counts, right?

If you want to sell it, maybe we could put something together that would give people a few more buttons than the stock panel...they could program them however they wish.

No I was wondering how you got the extra wiring from the harness of the car plug to the radio for the mute and then from the harness to the green wire on the mod. did you just tap into the wires behind the harness.

As for the relay. Well basicly we dont screw around! We only get the best relays and use them for everything. No radio shack runs! I would rather use an oversized relay that I know will work than some other little dinky thing I have no confidence in. Plus were a stereo shop we buy them by the gross so they are cheap!

Hey, that's what the board is all about, right? I put my webpage up for two reasons: 1) Show my little girl off, and 2) Help others avoid the mistakes and pitfalls I ran into and/or see whether or not they will like a mod before they try it themselves. I believe if even a small percentage of the members here create such a page, we would see just about every mod under the sun (when you consider everyone's varying tastes).

I knew those 11 years of electrical engineering classes would come in handy some day

Great work! BTW, when I spoke with PAC, in February, they said the S2000 unit costs about $30, for orders of 5 or more.

What kind of head unit are you working with MacGyver?

Thanks.

2x6spds, do you have any more info on the $30 group deal that PAC told you about. I'm sure we could get 5 buyers in for $30. Up here in Canada they are 119.99 at the local audio shop, and they don't have the SWI-3, only the SWI-2. I would love to get in on this.
