Same here, if someone wants to get in they will whether the top be up or down. I worry more about rain than anything else.

I agree with most of the points above and I nearly always leave my top up when parked BUT:

With the red interior it gets much more admiration from passers-by (and from me ) if the top is down, so I like to do that occasionally when I am leaving it for only a short time and I can keep an eye on it.

Only time I leave the top down is when I'm stopping by the 7/11 for a slurpy or something and I'll be right back out. Anything longer than that and I'll put it up. Don't want my Red interior turning pink.

I usually leave it top up. The one F ing time I left it for a prolonged period top down 30 mins while grocery shopping. I came back to find someone had thrown a couple of empty coke cans in my car. It's not about the sensors either, I have motion sensors. I am not worried about people stealing stuff out of my car. I have nothing in my car to steal. It's all the stupid things people can throw into the car that worries me.

after i had the interior motion sensor installed, i kept the top down whenever i would park within sight distance. one day i came back out and found ashes on my drivers seat and a cigarette butt sitting on my floor mat :|.

do yourself a favor and park the car if you are going to be more than 20' away from it. years down the line, your interior will thank you for it!

My solution after the top was slashed: Installed a proximity alarm, audible alert for the far protection zone, leave the windows open a crack 3-4 inches, leave the glove box open, covered the pictographs of the trunk open switch and the hood switch with black tape. The top still stays up. Reaching into the car thru the windows will set off the alarm. Hopefully the noise will make visitors leave, especially when they see nothing inside. Maybe they won't see the trunk and hood latches and steal my car cover or battery. My level of paranoia is much higher now

I would love to leave it down and just keep the boot on but I just can't bring myself to do it. I don't even like parking next to other cars. I can just see some idiot tossing a drink or cigarette in my car. This would definately ruin my day. Top down only when I'm in it or within range.

Incidentally, if you have a factory alarm, I have successfully interfaced an Omega proximity sensor to it (Au-94) using info I got kindly from Modifry. Send me a PM if you want details on how to do it.
