You can't get involved in the petty frustrations or fantasies of the other drivers on the road, I give'm plenty of room and have plenty of room to enjoy my drive.

However, I did enjoy it when our "mule" was a blue/gray Crown Vic. Few passed me,no one cut me off and I had the left lane to myself when I wanted it.

I agree to this. Semi drivers that I have encountered in situations such as this are always the most conscious and courteous on the road. They may take a little longer to get over into the other lane due to their size and need to double-check mirrors prior to merging, but dang if they don't always get out of the way whenever they can to let me by. I always try to wave or give the thumbs-up when they do that for me.

You gotta give those guys some room and respect and understand the situation they are in. People act like dicks around them all the time because of their slower acceleration and need to leave more space in front. It angers me more when I see people cutting off semi's than when people cut me off, cause those guys are out there making a living, doing their job. It could be big trouble for their lively-hood if you cut them off and cause a wreck with them. Not to mention its like playing with fire. That semi doesn't care if you are going to miss American Idol; 60,000 lbs moving at 70 miles per hour doesn't stop too well when you cut it off.

I heard somewhere that if some ass-hat doesn't know how to merge and a semi is in the right line, the semi has the right to roll right over him, as opposed to trying to brake or swerve and maybe causing damage to other drivers.

Anyone heard of this?

What are you guys' opinion on the good ol' flash? I know oversees its done all the time. Mainly for driving puttering along down the left [read fast] lane. To recall an incident, driving along the coastal route in South Africa at around 130-140kph headed towards the beach, a sir in a Audi Rs6 is flashing me from probably a quarter mile back(only me and him on the road and he's approaching fast). I slide over to the right lane to let him by. He's probably doing about 170-180 k's. He flicks the hazards on to say thanks and I give him a quick flash (of my high-beams) to acknowledge.

If I attempt to flash someone here on the East Coast, I get no response, hardly anyone moves, if they do move they're f*king pissed off about it. I don't mean any harm, I just want you to get out the LANE YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DRIVING IN.

I've done it as a last resort with varying degrees of effectiveness. I think it was yesterday I was in the left lane and this BMW in front of me was doing about 72 or so in a 70 and passing a truck in the right lane, I hate this behavior, but you'll never get people to learn so I have generally started to ignore it. Well he starts slowing down and ends up at about 55 in a 70 with me behind him, I flash my lights a couple times and my surprise he actually speeds up pretty much immediately.

I think as far as passing is concerned it's just a general lack of awareness that seems to be so incredibly prevalent on the roads today. The difference with the S I believe is that its more of a car that people really take notice of, it'll knock them out of their semi-conscious driving state and make them look at their speedo and realize how slow they are going. When those same people get passed by say a Camry they don't take notice and just keep on driving, if you can call that driving. That's my theory anyway/

Just hit the brakes somewhat hard when he is still accelerating up to 'ride your bumper' and he'll have a heart attack because he suddenely has to go from 15 over your speed to 25 under your speed in a short amount of time/distance, that's going to give any driver a heart attack, haha.

P.S. I wouldnt' really suggest this, maybe just not driving like a dick. I wouldn't like it if a car flew by me, then jumped in front of me and slammed on the brakes to make a right turn, but I'm not sure how far ahead you were and how hard you hit the brakes. Maybe it was a 35mph road and you had 10 car lengths, that would be acceptable I would think.

I always see slow moving cars let all other cars pass by but when I try to pass in my S they'll speed up and get all aggressive. It never happens in any other car, just the S.

It doesn't matter whether it's a semi or a Civic, the vehicle traveling on the freeway has the right-of-way to the vehicle merging onto the freeway. Most drivers don't understand this, and think that it's the other guy's responsibility (the one ON the freeway already) to let them merge at whatever speed the mergers are traveling, usually 10-20 under the limit. Learn to use an onramp properly, people...

Drivers here tend to drive with their ego, completely foregoing the rules of the road. The rules are laid out logically but the issue here is twofold: (1) most people don't bother to learn the rules and (2) they drive with their emotions (e.g. OMG, that guy just hurt my feelings and shattered my fragile ego by passing me, I'll show him!).

With that said, I try to go by a line that my dad once told me, "don't insist on your right of way." I do my best to drive logically, with the goal of keeping traffic flowing as smoothly as possible (keep right-pass left, keep your distance, etc). However, there will always be emotional, ignorant morons out there screwing things up for the rest of us. I just laugh at them...

I believe I read something on Reddit (so it must be factual) that a semi-truck cannot legally leave its lane if its not safe to do so. This means if you cut off a semi and they cannot safely dodge it, they WILL roll right the f* over you because killing 1 person in 1 car has better odds than the driver swerving, losing control and possibly injuring or killing many people including himself. **This is just what I read**

As far as pick up truck-drivers go...I'll just leave this here... (No offense to P/U drivers, I just wanted to share what came to mind.)

I'm happy to notice that this kind of behavior is not specific to French drivers but it's worldwide!
I noticed the same here, when driving faster than other drivers and going to pass them, when they see the S, it seems that they are telling in their head "Damned this little sports car shouldn't pass!" and they floor...
