I was getting my hair cut last Saturday, when I was sitting in the waiting room I over heard two little boys about the age of 6-8 saying "WOW look at the Viper". They were pointing at my S!

Barry

I happen to think the 1953, 54 and 55, and the 1963 split rear window Corvettes are the most beautiful ever made. I guess that puts them in the same class as the S.

I'm also a real fan on the '53-'55 Corvette. (At the LA Auto Show in January, GM had a '53 and an '03 Corvette next to each other. The new model is so sterile and cold compared to the original!)

In a sense, I think the '53 Corvette and the S2000 represented the "soul" of each company at the time they came out. My lack of enthusiasm for S2000 derivatives is that I expect that Honda will end up following a similar path to the one that Chevrolet did on the 'vette. No matter how noble Honda's intentions, this route seems inevitable. The same way that the Corvette team at GM has fought successfully to keep their car alive, Honda will want to keep the S2000 going. Doing so means making it appeal to a broader audience every time a change is made. This is the same successful business model that has made the US Accord the car it is today--top selling, extremely competent and reliable, highly profitable, and utterly without personality. I would rather see Honda end production of the S2000 after next year than to start down this slippery slope.

No matter. We've got the original item. It, for me, is as close as I'll ever come to owning a '53 Corvette or a Porsche 356 or an AC Cobra. Corvette and Porsche went on to develop. Cobra stopped. All three are classics.

1948 Porsche 356 cabriolet

1952 Porsche 356 cabriolet

Maybe I'd add Karman Ghia to the list too.

Simply beautiful. I do prefer the original. There are subtle differences. Still, for all of its shortcomings, the TD is one of my all time favorite cars. Until I got my S, the only "someday" car for me was the TD. I had one years ago and I've been sorry that I sold it since the day after I sold it.
